jmgilliam, I am very interesting in found out on how well Santa Rosa perform with Vista. Are you planning to run any financial apps? If you are, please let me know if you are having issues installing or running it.

Wow - I'm impressed. It looks great.

The screen looks super - I got the wxga (not +) - 1280x800 is plenty small for me... :)

The keyboard is fantastic - I returned a Inspiron 6400 for this - much better.

I'll see if I can post some pics later ...

Can I ask why you've opted the D860 over the D630 if screen wasn't really an issue to you? Did the extra 1.3" make the difference for you? Thanks

Yes, I like the size 15.4" but I just don't care for the tiny resolution. I don't want to squint to see stuff on my screen.

How do you like your 630?

The keyboard is so different than my 6400...

I love my D630. Build quality is exceptional. Keyboard is wonderfully quiet and easy to comfortable to type on, wireless works very fast, I love the added TPM security hardware, I love the looks (very handsome and professional looking), not too heavy (weighs only a tiny bit more than my XPS M1210).

Overall, I'm completely happy with my purchase.

Same here - I love mine. I like the professional look versus the 6400 with white bumpers i had. My keyboard is a little loud with the clicks but I like it that way. I went with the 6 cell battery to help with weight and it was a good choice, very light for a 15.4.

The build is great, I looked at some Thinkpads and they are supposed to be "rocks" but they felt like plastics, this is like metal - has a nice metal feel to the case, very nice. The latch is a metal shiny finished color, not plastic. I like the trackpoint also. :)

P.S. I did have to revert back to the Vista driver for my Intel 3945 wireless card, the Intel driver kept letting my signal drop...

Yeah, I don't get what all the hype with the thinkpad's are.

    2K+ for plastic? No thanks....

    Hi,

    congrats on your new laptop!

Please try identifying the LCD type (IPS, MVA, PVA, etc.).
I am planning to purchase D830 with 1680x1050 resolution (to also fit on my 20" wide panel) but my main concern is about the display quality.
    I am a proud owner of Dell 2007WFP 20" wide-screen S-IPS panel and I love it.
Black banding or small light leakage is not big issue for me, but I must have a laptop displaying perfect colors and having a wide view angles.

Also, do anybody happen to know when Dell will have other than the integrated graphic card option?

Thank you for your responses in advance!

    Cheers

Then you'll be disappointed with just about every laptop except for (maybe) a MBP and the Thinkpad T60 with Flexview (S-IPS panel). Just about every single other notebook comes with a TN panel (typically 6 bit) and won't be able to touch your 2007FPW in terms of color reproduction, viewing angles, etc.

Does your D830 have the scroll capability? If so does it work well?

When you say "Scroll Capability" - what do you mean exactly?

I use the touchpad mostly - do you mean with the trackpoint? If so, I'd like to know how to do it too :0)

If you get the d830 with the highest resolution (WUXGA) - can you change it to a lower resolution?

Yes...but it isn't going to look pretty running at non-native resolution...except for gaming (which looks fine thanks to graphics techniques).
