My DVD drive stopped working while watching a DVD. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9400 with Intel Centrino Duo & windows XP.

A CD works OK, & I have checked that windows has stated that all the hard ware is working OK.

When looking in windows explorer, drive D shows no files for a DVD.

The windows media player says that there is no disk in the drive when there is.

Can any one advise? Many thanks.

Push on the drive. Its weird but sometimes the latch does not catch. I have to this this with mine all the time.

    Check for new drivers.
Check a new media player and see if it can find the DVD.

    Try reseating the optical drive.
