The title says it all.
I recently sold my desktop and was looking for a replacement.
Decided a laptop was the way to go and eventually it came down to 2.
The Macbook Pro and the M1530...
Decided to go with the M1530 due to the price of the MBP.
I finally then ordered and upgraded to the following specs on 19-5-08:
T9300
320GB HD
1440x900(no 1680x1050 in the UK)
256 8600M GT
It is a Product RED due to really wanting a red one.
I ordered over the phone and did some negotiating with price and
finally got for £799. Was then told the ETA would be 11-6-08 which wasn't
bad. I then recieved a phone call the on the Wednesday saying It would be delivered on Thursday. Overall very impressed with sales and the delivery.
Once I got it and turned it on I discovered the screen was really grainy and
after doing some checking i found my model number was the dreaded SEC3157. It really was awfull, the whites were very grey and the colors were also washed out.
I immediatley phoned Dell and explained the situation. The tech then did some tests through remote desktop but still no change. I then requested the LG screen and he said he would have to speak to his manager. On hold for about 20 minutes......The guy then said that a new replacement was on its way and that his boss had requested that an LG be sent.
Which was nice but when I checked the dispatch the model numbe was for the whole panel and basically I wouldn't know until it was in if i got the LG.
To my surprise the tech was here the next and with the new LG.
I really do love this laptop and despite the issue with the screen Dell have
been very good. I mean I got my laptop 2 days from when I ordered it, I then got the screen that I requested and it was installed the next day.
The LG screen really does look nice. Things are much sharper, the whites look white and the colors are very vibrant.
Just wanted to share my eperience for anbody out there considering ordering this laptop.
Cheers

Im assuming this wasnt a custom order.
-
Nope. I did the upgrading/customizing online and then emailed the basket so as to see if I could get a better price.
-
Well you said you got the laptop 2 days after you ordered it. So you got a refurbished unit at a discount.
-
I really don't know.
I'm not sure why dell would send me a refurbished one when
I ordered and payed for a new one, discount or no discount.
It also was made in Ireland so really not that far from where i live.
But also the fact that most people seem to be getting them with
the samsung screen then having it replaced numerous times and still getting
the same screen despite asking fo a LG.
Anyway I'm not paticularly bothered. It's still covered by th waranty refurb or not. -
Well, there is no way a new order got to your doorstep in two days, its just impossible.
-
He ordered it on the 19th and received it on the Thurs. I make that 4 days. Sounds about right to me for a UK order if everything is in stock, no reason why it would be a refurb.
-
I dont buy it, no way they produced boxxed shipped and delivered a new laptop in 4 days.
-
Well they do, if the laptop parts are in stock it only takes a day to process the order and get it ready for shipping. I don't know what it's like in other countries but Dell UK are usually very good in getting things out for delivery, and they're definitely not refurbs, its against UK law for a start.
-
Ahh, sorry about that.
I did put 2 days. I ordered it on the monday and recieved
it on the Thursday. My apologies.
Ill be honest though. I used to mock dell,HP and other companies.
All ther PC's just seemed to be from the same mold. I build custom
PC's, gaming, water cooling, whatever the client is willing to spend really and
alot ask me what the difference is between mine and theres, and ofcourse i would say build quality, upgradeable and custom chosen top spec parts.
Unfortunatley for me it isn' that easy or possible really to build your own laptop.
But dealling with dell has opened my eye abit, and i would say i am slightly more appreciative of the quality of service i have seen when dealling with them. -
I still dont buy it, Unless they have production facilities in the UK.
-
The fact is it happened.
do you think I am lying or something.........
My last desktop PC I built, Quadcore, watercooling, with SLI graphics
only took me a day to build, and that was just me.
I'm sure that in a proffesional manufacturing plant in the UK that dell can build a laptop
and ship it in four days. -
My M1530 was also ordered, build and shipped within 40 hours. Now I am waiting the 'ship' to bring it to Denmark.
-
The laptops for UK and Ireland and a lot of Europe are made in Limerick, Ireland, it takes a builder literally minutes to build the laptop, its tested, packaged and goes to shipping....
Laptops often arrive within two days of ordering in Ireland if the parts are in stock, so why couldnt it make the the small journey to the UK in an additional two days? -
anyone know when the Led's are getting their way to the UK and ssd 2 generation as I might consider getting one then
-
I had an online chat to a Dell Rep' who stated that she had ' no idea ' when LED's will be available.
With reference to the shipping from the Emerald Isle (Ireland), why the disbelief ? If all the parts are available, the production worker justs needs to put them together, just like a puzzle ! The testing won't take long, throw it in a box and ship it off across the water to the UK.
Ireland is a hop, skip and jump from the UK, it doesn't take long for items to be shipped between us.....Poland isn't that far away either
