    This month I've bought two Dell laptops and had to return both of them, at this point I am not sure if I should give Dell a third chance, I am hoping for some advice.

    =================
    Dell XPS 15 2nd Gen:
    This laptop seemed nice at first, others have posted about the fan spinning up but my issues were much more serious, the fan would not slow down once they sped up, so anytime I came across a flash ad or watched a video, the fan would be stuck on max until I suspended/hibernated my laptop. Even after modifying the power / nvidia graphic card settings, an hour later the fan would still be at it's max speed. I contact Dell and they agree it is defective and I returned it. I decided to buy the Dell Inspiron 17R, just to make sure I would not have similar problems.

    Dell Inspiron 17R:
    This laptop was actually perfect, except one small problem. There was a loud high pitched noise coming from the bottom, it sounded like the fan. I was going to keep it, but after using it for about 4 hours my ears started ringing and I had no choice once again to contact dell for a refund.
    =================

    In both of these cases dealing with Dell was actually pretty smooth, both laptop designs were nice, dealing with returns was easy, and Dell did offer to send someone to my house but I was worried of repeated problems with my laptop and because I am a student I thought it might be easier to simply return it and order another model to ensure it simply was not an issue with that specific model, but in each case I received defective laptops and at this point I would like to stick with Dell but I am worried about receiving another melon laptop.

    I am thinking at this point I simply should have had them come out to my house and fix it as many times as needed so I could simply be done with this whole process, I never thought that ordering a new laptop would consume so much time and energy.

    Has anyone else had such experiences? What would you do if you were me (give them a third shot or not)? I could really use the advice as I've spent so much time researching other laptops, but I would rather stick with what I know and Dell does have great support. I am in my last year of college and I would prefer something stable so I can finish my year without dealing with a laptop that has problems.

    Dell has been pretty reliable for me. Every manufacturer turns out a lemon now and then...but I am curious, was your XPS updated to the newest BIOS? I seem to remember a problem similar to that being fixed with a simple BIOS update.

    The reality is, your perception towards Dell has been tarnished, you will be hyper sensitive to any issues and may not be satisfied with any Dell you purchase again.

    I'd get another XPS 15, but you might want to look elsewhere.

    On the Dell XPS 15, the BIOS was updated to the latest version. I know a lot of people complained about loud fans, but I think my issue was more serious with the fans simply not dropping back down to normal and instead was running at what seemed to be there max speed even with nothing running except Windows 7.

    For some reason I was actually thinking of getting another Dell XPS 15 as my first one was really nice.

    Thanks for your feedback.

    I would rather deal with a company that was prepared to try to put things right. There are other companies that are not so nice and it can be like trying to get blood from a stone with some of them.

    I have just recently bought my very first DELL (XPS L702x) purely because of all the posts that i have read about DELL trying to and sorting out any problems. ALL manufactures will have problem laptops, not all will be as easy and as nice to deal with.

    Give DELL another chance at least ... who knows, third time lucky. :)

    I think it's been said really, any laptop may come across a problem whether it be Dell or another company. People can just pick up a bad egg, if you like, which puts them off the company for good.

    I've had 3 Dell machines (1 desktop, 2 laptops) the desktop has been running fine for 6 years now although it be slow due to being so outdated, both laptops 3-4 years without issues.

    XPS 15 is a nice laptop as long as you go for the 1080p screen.

    it seems that even though they were defective, you had a easy time with either replacing or getting your refund back, and thats more thanks to dell. before my alienware, dell is all i would get, (and dell bought out alienware a while ago), so i would really say to try it again.

    My experience with dell was not so good..

    I bought a refurbished laptop from them. The cd drive went out and had heating issues..

    Ill stick to lenovo or asus now. My personal favorites.

    My Dell exprience is HORRIBLE .

    I got my Notebook in 2008 . the first year , I did not use it very much because I was alwase at office an I worked there,,,exactly after 12 mounths , one day I could not turn it on anymore,,,I turned it on, but the screen did not show any thing,,,,all black!
    I tried to contact Dell servis in Milan,,,No support of them,,,because they do not even pick up the phone if a system does not have Warranty,,,there was a compicated process to contact them and I could not do that.

    I tried many other support to fix my notebook,,,,but when a system do not even turn on nobody could understand the problem,,,,

    after 6 mounths when I was trying to show it to a technical man , it came up without any problem,,,

    for 6 mounths It worked but It has almost many other software and Adapter problems,,,,since during 6 mounths I twice I changed the adapter.

    and then It started to have graphic problems,,,,After for the first time I used continuly photoshop . It could not handle anymore,,,it is died! the icones are very big,,,and it is not possible to change them! as I read people comments about this problem,I found out that this is not a graphic problem and can not be resolved even by changing motherboard,,,,

    I hate DELL ! Because when I bought it I tried to buy the best one on that time,,,I paid alot! and I had alwase problem more than any of my friends who have sony-Hp-apple - ...........

    I hate Dell because it did not support me never ,,,they do not even open anyway to be contact directly,,,,a complicated system that is not understandable for ordinary people,,,,

    I am really un satisfied . Since I do not use personal Notbook too much I can not buy a new one every year! but certainly I will ignore it and I will not advice it to anybody ...

    I am really angry,,,,because I have to do my thesis,,,I need notebook,,,and I don't have money to buy a new one,,,,

    A wise old former boss taught me that anything man made can and will eventually break. The trick is to pick the one that has a better chance of lasting longer. My first notebook was an 8000 Inspiron that still works great even though I have spent some money on it. I have been staying away from Inspirons and Vostros as they are much newer and faster than my old 8000, price cuts have required Dell to cut corners. We are now only using Latitudes and Precisions with very good results. Even my daily beaters the old D600 and D820 Latitudes are very reliable machines. Don't think that all Dells are junk. Even GM has vehicles that you better stay away from and some that are rock solid.

    I have had the Latitude D610 for ages, and it has never stuffed up.. now i am ordering the M4600 and so far, everything has gone smoothly :) can't wait until it comes. But i have ordered a monitor (ST2210) from them in the past, which did take a while to ship. But otherwise they have given me pretty good service that i am happy with. Although, i have heard people say how dells aren't that good. I am always unsure of what they mean, as none of my dell computers have ever stuffed up (desktops) so i think it might be only consumer laptops that decide to crash more than the business ones?
