    Hello,

I got to post this before I go to bed. Anyway, I just recieved my replacement M1530 today. My original M1530 had some issue with touchpad and USB ports, so I called Dell. They agreed to send me a new machine to make me happy. Well, my original M1530 has beautiful LG screen, and I love it!!

The replacement one is pectfect, but the screen is so dull and dark. I compare my original system with a new system. Oh boy, it is just like night and day. The LG screen is much clearer and brighter than my new system. I try to id the monitor manufacturer, but Vista only gave me default monitor. Anyway, I call Dell immediately and demand a screen replacement. I should get a new screen on Monday.

Now, I really know what the grainy screen looks like. I am begin to think about LED option if Dell ever offer on M1530. I got a pretty good deal on this machine, but I can't stand a GRAINY screen.

My question to you guys. How much WXGA+ brighter than WXGA. I heard a lot of people talk about how good WXGA+ is, and I have a grainy WXGA. It makes me think twice if I have to return the laptop. Don't get me wrong. I love the laptop but hate a grainy screen.

You go to Device Manager, Monitors, Generic No-PnP Monitor, Propertied, Details, and looking for Hardware Ids.

Man, I could not really tell. It just gives me, "Default Monitor". Trust me, it is worst!!! :( The screen is dark even at the maximum brightness. Anyway, I told Dell tech support that I want LG screen, and he told me that he could not pick the brand. I will get the screen on Monday, is the new screen is still bad. I will call Dell again. Hopefully, the tech who will change my screen doesn't scratch my laptop because I am going to be pissed!!!

I agree, the LG screen is too bright I had to turn down a notch or two. I think LPL0301 is the best WXGA screen for M1530. It must sucks to have other screen, since you know how beautiful LG screens is. I agree you should swap the screen if you haven't send it to Dell yet.

No, I haven't send the original system to Dell yet. I am holding on to it because I am plaining to swap the screens. Well, I will see what the tech got for me on Monday first.

I worry about another thing too if he is going to scratch my laptop in the process of swaping the screens. I will call Dell if my laptop has any scratch at all. You guys can call me picky, but I think with $1500 plus that I spend with Dell. I deserve to have a perfect machine. :)

To vbrookie, I do agree that LG screen is too bright, but I love a bright screen. I always turn the brightness down like 2 levels. I heard horrible storied about teches are rough with the laptop. Well, they better don't scratch my laptop because I won't sattle for imperfection machine.

You could change out the screen yourself so that the tech doesnt scratch it. It's VERY simple.

Hey, Thanks a million :D I just changed the screen myself last night. It took me like 2 hours because it was my first time, and I have to rearrange the wires back too. My screen is perfect now!!! The tech will come out on Monday, and I got a surprise for him. :D I am thinking about taking his job.

Good for you!!! So how was the first time notebook opening experience? I was sweating like pig when I did it first, because I was afraid something might go wrong, I happy to say I've opened mine up several time and everything worked out perfectly each and every tiime!

I wouldn't tell the LCD Swap if I were you. I don't think LCD is a user upgradable item, so I might void warrenty, and things might get ugly and ends up paying for other too. I don't know if tech check the service tag number or not but if they don't check for the service tag just have him swap the one with the crappy screen. He is getting paid to do so.

I expect him to come with Samsung screen, so I won't say anything. I am keeping me replacement, and let him works on my original laptop that has a problem anyway. I will send my original one back and act like nothing happens.

    To inoymous

Well, the tech cam by and I acted dumb like I don't know anything. I told him about the grainy screen, and he told me it would be fixed. Anyway, the replacement screen is chinese brand not LG or Samsung. I told him that I don't want him to install the screen on my (original) laptop because it is going to be grainy and dull. Well, he insisted to install it, so I let him do it. It took hime like 30 minutes to get everything together and I have another laptop which is Acer Aspire 5220 with LG screen. We compared the machines side by side. XPS with chinese screen looks darker and the a little grainy too. Acer screen looks PERFECT!!! and XPS costs $600. The tech wanted to call Dell, but I told him the truth that I already got a screen swap, and I didn't want to go through the hassle get a new machine for nothing again. Anyway, he called Dell and ask them to send a new screen lid and the frame because I wanted an extra on in case I stratch my lid. It was fun, and Dell XPS tech was really helpful. I got no complain there.

To Dmman7. You got AUO screen. I had it on my E1505. It was ok, but I compare with LG side by side. LG is a little bit better because it has more even color. I would say LG is better than AUO about 2-5%. This is just my case. I don't know about general. I

I have seen grainy HP laptop with Samsung. Grainy Dell with AUO and chinese brand. I have seen very good quality LG on Dell, Acer, and HP.

Wow... that seems like it could have been a bit awkward.
You let the tech work on the broken laptop that you were going to send back to Dell. Then when he's done and sees that it is crappy he wants to call Dell for a return. You stop him, reveal that he has been working on the wrong laptop... and he's cool with this?
And then on top of it... he calls Dell to get you extra parts for no reason?

But that can be adjusted to make it dimmer... right? I don't have my M1530 yet... so I don't exactly know how.

Also, I think brighter can come in handy if you use you laptop outside on a sunny day. The ambient light will make it hard to see your screen. Turning up the brightness can help. Though while I HAVE had the opportunity to use my old laptop in the sun, I HAVEN'T had the opportunity to crank up the brightness to fix the "wash out". It just didn't have any more brightness to give.

    Hi,

I had my XPS 1530 replaced for another reason but I'm having trouble identifying the new panel, it's coming up as generic. I'm looking in Hardware IDs so should be seeing the code. The machine is straight out of the box still do I need to update drivers or something to pick it up?

My original which I haven't returned yet is LPL0301, I believe it's an LG panel.

Edit: Found my screen info by checking the service tag on the Dell site, looks like I got a Samsung (D/PN RP636). I'll do some side by side testing over the weekend to decide if it's worth worrying about.

    Thanks,
    Corine

AUO is AU Optronics Corp. Dell's suppliers of LCD panels appear to be LG.Phillips (shows up as LP) , Samsung (SEC), AUO and Chunghwa Picture Tube Co. (CPT).

I'd say it's a Samsung. Eneter your service tag on the Dell site and check the "original config", it will list a part no and description for the screen supplied. I don't know what res screen you received but my 1280 x 800 Samsung had the RP636 part no listed.

That service tag check should confirm what part was supplied for the HDD, it should give you the answer.

Yep, you got lucky as that's a LG Phillips code if I'm not mistaken. What res is the panel?

Why can't you check on the Dell site like I suggested, it's not hard. The only other way I know of is:-

    A) Crack open your casing and see what's printed on the panel
    B) Device Manager>Monitors>Generic Non-PNP>Properties>Details>Hardware IDs

    Try B before A :)
