I'm writing this, half as a vent session ,and half to see if anyone else has had any similar experiences.

My first Studio 15 came and from day 1 would freeze and then recover with a message that that video card had stopped responding but recovered. Eventually it would just freeze and I would have to restart the PC.

Tech support sent a new motherboard out and it fixed the problem, but the tech wasn't given thermal paste so the processor started over heating. At this point they sent me a replacement.

My second Studio 15 came and from day one(again) would freeze if I did anything more graphically intesive then reading e-mail. Playing a game would cause graphical artifacts and crash the PC.

Tech support sent a new motherboard and a new processor as sending a new processor is the only way thermal paste is sent with the motherboard. My second boot brought back all the problems from before but with somewhat slightly less frequency. They are sending me another replacement Studio 15.

If this one comes broken out of the box, I think I am done with Dell. Which stinks because I have this matching red wireless mouse and matching red speakers.

Wow, I've had pretty bad luck with Dell, but nowhere near as bad as your luck. The problems with Dell computers that I have had have always been with desktops. Hopefully, your third Studio 15 won't be a lemon like the last two.

Ive had 3 dells that worked great except EVERY one had a bad dvd burner. And they all had differnt model DVDRW drives, one dell had a sony burner and I noticed that at the time Vaio's were using Mat****a DVD RAM Drives ( which worked great), instead of thier own brand. I did not curse, that really is the name of the DVD RAM drive!!

Dang Zonkie, that really sucks! I certainly hope the replacement works without a hitch and you can just enjoy using your new notebook. Trust me, I know how it feels just waiting for the other shoe to drop all the time. But it was a car that I had to deal with on and on (and still ongoing), not a computer. I've decided to take drastic action if the ordeal rears its ugly head again! If there is another problem with it, I plan to take it back to the dealership (yet again) but this time I'm going to drive THROUGH the Service Department (as in THRU the front window, take out the service counter and, voila!, PROBLEM SOLVED....it'll be my my insurance company's problem at that point! hehe....I'm sorta kidding, sorta.....

Seriously, though, hope all goes well with this replacement unit! With the sorry luck that you've had with the ATI graphics cards and the current nVIDIA debacle......how's Intel integrated graphics sounding to you? :p :D

I updated bios, drivers, etc. I used to work with computers a lot before retiring and have somewhat kept up, but this is rediculous. I usually build my own but you can't really do that with a laptop. Well there are kits but my hands aren't what they used to be.

I actually used to work with the tech that came out. Same guy each time and i watched him take it apart and put it back together. Second motherboard was a refurb so maybe it had the problem and they didn't catch it.

Anyway, hope everyone elses Studios work out fine. 1 week till ship date on the new one.

Man, you should get a refund - you deserve a product that works, especially one that is so expensive and important to the user. I almost got a studio 15 but ended up canceling the order...really glad I did. Get your money back and get a different brand.

I'm sure sorry to hear what a terrible time you have been through with this.
Seems to me like I have heard both good and not good on the Studio, with mostly good on the XPS, which is a lot more money though.
Today at Best Buy I was feeling very suspcious of the sales person who was pushing like wild to get a Studi0 15. I mean this guy sounded like it was as good if not better than something costing nearly twice the price. Not sure if that means it is usually just amazingly fantastic, or if it means sales have dropped on this model.
Can you get your money back completely?

Yeah, Dell has been pushing the Studio model aggresively, but I think its mostly because Studio is not an established name like Inspiron and XPS yet. They just want to get people talking about it

It could be the Nvidia GPU issue on your notebook. I heard its affected a lot of Dell products.
