It's not a quick beep, but a little more drawn out beep and it happens far enough apart (more than an hour?) that I haven't gotten too concerned, but I want to know! I thought it might be my GPU overheating since I overclocked it, but the temps have never exceeded 78C and the warning chime is supposed to occur at 93C. I have since taken my GPU back down to its original speed and I still randomly hear the beep.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. As near as I can tell, it doesn't even happen when I'm doing anything 3-D related. It hasn't happened when running on battery power (because I'm almost always plugged in). The only quirk about my system that I have noticed is that my power brick get pretty hot - hot enough to concern me.

    Any thoughts?

Have you contacted Dell yet? Have you searched the Dell support forums? Maybe another Dell user reported a similar problem.

a hem.... Check to see if it's your wireless card finding a signal ;)
Click on the intel wireless icon in the tray and go to "Open Intel..." and then click "tools" then "application settings".. then under "show notification" uncheck that.

Hmm, I'll check out the Dell support forums. I didn't even think they had such a thing... :p

Both my wireless card and BT are disabled via the FN+F2 key. My Intel wireless thing is kinda weird anyway. Whether the wireless devices are on or off, the Windows wireless icon never disappears from the system tray... even when the right boxes are unchecked. I have to disable the wi-fi card just to make it disappear... lame.

I've got a couple other quirks with desktop settings. I want the Start Menu to display My Documents, Pictures, Links, etc. and I have selected the proper check boxes in the Start Menu properties... I don't know why it's not working like it should.

Try going to Device Manager and disabling "beep". My e1705 was doing the same thing for no reason at all. There is a thread on this topic buried somewhere in this forum:

"device manager-->view-->hidden devices-->under nonplug and play, right click on beep and disable it. "
