Well if there is that much leakage...call Dell and they will have someone come out and replace the LCD. :p

It seems to be only really visible when on a black screen, although this thing is LOADED with bloatware! Upon bootup for the first time l had 74+ processes running while my desktop usually has 20-25. l'm uninstalling crap now and later on i'll probably reformat.

l'm having another issue with connecting to the internet, everytime l open IE l get a error.

1" of leakage seems pretty typical on an E1405. Depending on the type of warranty you purchased, Dell is going to ask you to send in the laptop. They'll then replace the LCD with one that probably isn't much better.

I have about 1" of leakage on mine also (it really depends on the angle you're viewing at). It really doesn't bother me at all unless I'm watching a widescreen DVD.

It doesn't bother me with dvds because l just choose to "stretch" them and there will be no black bars on the top, bottom, or sides.

l like this keyboard and the buttons below the touchpad aren't bad, but the touchpad itself i'm not liking. So far the touchpad, bloatware, and the screen are my only issues. But for $640 l can't really complain can l?

Anyone know what l can do to combine a empty partition with my main partition? Because l have a 60gb hdd and dell has a empty 12gb partition next to my 38gb main partition.

If you're planning to reformat & don't need the recovery partition, just delete all the partitions except for the 40MB partition when you reinstall windows.

After that, just make a new partition with the unpartitoned space (assuming you only want one partiton); most people recommend at least 2.

l just want to keep a partition with windows and everything else on it, and another for media direct. Can't l just combine this 12gb partition without reformatting for now?

Reformatting is free :D You mentioned earlier that you were thinking about reformatting anyway. So I don't really see any problem with keeping the partitions until you reformat.

Sorry if this sounds dumb but l need to be sure what to do. To reformat all l have to do is:

Boot with the xp recovery disk that came with my e1405
Choose to reformat the largest partition
    Install xp in that spot
Put in my drivers & utilities disk and install drivers.

    Thats it?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Assuming you only want one partition, you're going to delete all the other partitions first (I personally choose to keep the 40MB one b/c the diagnostic software can be helpful & also for mediadirect).

After you delete the partitions, you're going to create a partition with all the unpartitioned space; you'll then install windows on that partition.

I would download the drivers from Dell first, because the ones shipped with the Drivers CD might be outdated.

You should read SouthernGirl's sticky for more info.
