    I have a quick question. I was using 2 x 1GB PC5400 ram and no problem. I just bought 2 x 2GB PC 5400 memory to upgrade.

I use T2500 (duo core 1) processor and bios A601 (something like that), but my 32b vista only recognizes 3326MB memory. Is is because of the processor (not able handle 64b calculation so it does not show the 4GB memory), or the bios (need upgrade to which version?) or the OS (needs to be upgraded to 64b version)?

    Thanks.

The original Core Duo processors are NOT 64bit (correct me if I'm wrong but I am not) so you will never be able to use all 4GB of RAM. In your case, every component in your laptop is a reason why you cannot see 4GB. Processor, chipset, OS, everything.

but I heard the duo core 1 does not support 64b version, so even I update my vista, it can not run right?

That's what I think.. but 3326 is still better than 2048 :D.. save the sticks for the new laptop thou...

Sorry, lol. I totally forgot the Core Duos weren't 64-bit.

Go with what Greg said, I'm a douche

3326MB is as much as you will see,

    * even if you upgrade your OS to whatever
    * even if you get a Core 2 Duo processor
    * whatever BIOS you ever use

The limitation is in the chipset. There are 32-bit components there that you cannot upgrade, and they *will* hide part of your 4Gb whatever you try to do.

You need Santa Rosa (1720 and family) to see the full 4Gb.

Hey catennacio, I'm having the same problem as you. It seems to be a limitation of 32bit systems. However try this. This could be a bug on Vista's side, but give it a try anyway. Go to Start > Run. Type msconfig, and hit the Boot Tab, then click on advanced button. Uncheck Max Memory. Mine was checked by default, and doesnt make any sence why it would do that. In my case I had 2 GB of Ram and upgraded to 4GB. Bios recognized all 4GB, but Vista only recognized 3GB. Give it a try.

This is no Vista bug. Its a hardware 'feature.'

Well, I'm running a 32 bit Vista, and that did the trick for me. Vista had the "Max Memory" set to 3GB by default. Unchecking it, did the trick.
