You really need to look around for better drivers on Vista or switch to XP. I get 95fps at 1440 by 900 with 4x MSAA compared to your 88fps at 1280 by 800 with no aa in the CS:S benchmark.

My Inspiron 1520 is using XP, btw.

How do you like the Anti-glare screen? Any problems with it or is it awesome outside? Just wondering to go with that or a glossy screen.

I see all the prices being $50 for all the color options, am I missing something? How'd you score 20 bones for a color change?

    You aren't missing anything...

For some reason, Dell likes to play games with the configurations...

Some options go up, others down....

    Drives me nuts :D

Unfortunately, you have to look at the price for the ENTIRE configuration to see if you ended up with a better deal or not

Hey, I really like my anti-glare screen. I've only used it a couple of times outside, but I found that if your in direct sunlight, its going to be hard to see no matter what kind of screen you have, but if you are under some shade, you will be completely fine.

Have you tried the earphone jack? A lot people are having noise issues with their earphones, including Stella, the person who did the first full review on 1520.

i noticed some noise issues also on my 1520, even it just in idle mode (no video/audio playing) but when i played music or videos, everything seems to be fine with the sound quality...not sure if this is normal....

if you're asking on every thread about the jack in and earbuds you'll end up buying something else just because you cannot use a laptop as iPod ?
like I answered you already on other thread... these are just BS stories! I opted for the Audigy card and I'm listening music in my headphones for a week and there's no high or low-pitch buzzin sounds. also another BS stories are about matte screens. I have no graininess or blur or anything compromising for my trained eye ! ;)

Hey, he's talking about if you have the crappy Creative Earbuds plugged in, will you hear a static-noise? Yes, you will, but all you need to do is just buy a decent pair of headphones. Luckily, I already had a pair, and it's completely fine.

Larson I'm glad you're on the realistic side here. There's nothing wrong with jacks or screens. Earbuds.. maybe! But that's not Dell's fault. I am not using them. There are only rumours from guys that even didn't buy their 1520s and they just look for a reason to denigrate Inspiron's success with these new models. Guys, it's do damn simple: you don't want it, buy that damn lenovo. If you all believe that it will be better.. it's only your humble opinion, just like mine is too.

Excellent review. I ordered my 1520 just yesterday with the exact same specs. Is that a Fender Stratocaster 60th Anniversary Ed.? If so I have the same guitar! It was my first and I love it, except for the stripped screw on the plate that holds the jack.

Dude, great review. One question, how do you like Windows Vista? Oh and btw, I run off a Jackson Guitar, and I went with Marshal amps :D

Hey honestly, I love Windows Vista so far. I've only had a few problems that were only minor.

Man... a Jackson with a Marshall amp (how many watts?), that's a nice duo right there (you like your Jackson? I'm thinking about getting a new guitar after college). My friend bought a $1300 92' Charvel (made by Jackson) off Ebay a few months back, it's sooooo nice.

Larson can you tell me a more "realistic" figure of the battery life. Is it really 5-6 hours on pwer saver mode? Is that with wifi on?

I got a half stack marshall 125 Watt, i know it sounds totally unnecessary to have such a powerful amp, but w/e i wanted it. My Jackson Guitar, has a rosewood fretboard, it's incredibly light, didn't like the pickups it came with so I had to pick up some SMG's for it, and I love it

Okay, now its only like 4 hours max... the battery life dropped significantly.

That fender amp in that picture is 100 watt, I love the power :D.

Well, my Inspiron 1520 that i bought a few days ago has a horrific screen. It's wxga (1280x800) and the viewing angles are horrible. There's considerable light bleeding, not just at the edges, but also spread over the screen. It's glossy as hell, turns into a bloody mirror under the tiniest amount of ambient lighting. How are the viewing angles on the anti-glare screen and can I assert to Dell that it's defective and ask for a replacement with a different panel manufacturer (I really thought that this was the way the screen is , but considering how I seem to be the only one who's gone crazy over the brightness&contrast and horrendous viewing angles and not grainy picture, it just might be a defective screen)?

Btw how do I figure out what type of panel my screen uses?
