My Inspiron 1520... shipped? ;-)

Let me clarify a few things.

I purchased this computer (1520 in signature) on the 26th of June, with an estimated ship date of July 13th. I just got off the phone with my Dell Rep who informed me that my computer has been built(!!11!!1!) and is to be sent from the manufacturer to wherever they actually ship the product.

WOO? This is my first time dealing with dell, and while my rep had the strongest Indian accent, I found her quite pleasing and the service thus far to be impecible. Whats with the nay-saying? Most importantly, for those of you who have purchased computers from Dell in the past, how long does it generally take to leave the manufacturer (assumed to be some oriental sweat shop) to where it leaves for my doorstep?

well, it is a very stripped OS...... wait, a stripped vista! im downgrading! lol

 

I figured running the minimum of Vista Home Basic would alleviate some of the silly crap I don't care about: Aero. ;-) Am I going to suffer performance / gaming wise?

 

No not at all - you just lose some of the effects and the Media Centre included with Home Premium or Ultimate.

 

Dell has a chartered China Airlines Cargo 747 fly to Memphis every business day. Once it's in Memphis, the machines are taken off of pallets and into boxes where they are transfered to the shipping company

 

Wooo! Glad I live less than 10 hours from Memphis.

 

If you're 10 hours away from Memphis, expect it 2 days after you receive your tracking number

 

How long was you notebook "in production" for? Mine has been about 4 to 5 days and haven't shipped yet.

 

Wait dells are made in CHina?

 

Just to clarify, "in production" doesn't mean it's rolling down the assembly line...it means it's in the production phase of things. Like mine was "in production" 15 seconds after I ordered it, and has been for the last week...if you want a real answer, expect it being produced 12 or so days before your expected ship date, and getting it about a week before your expected ship date.

ok so then in that case i sould be getting it on monday. Mine is supposed to ship the 19th. lets assume that were including monday into the 12 days. 19-12 = 8 with next day shipping that means its getting here on monday. On one hand thats hard to believe because 12 is such an arbitrary number. on the other hand it sounds about right.

I sure do hope ur right.

BTW. this conferms the rumors that the first wave shiped the 5th

Here's my question for you, so you've gotten the info that you're computer has shipped based on speaking directly with a representative... has your online status changed at all? I'm just wondering if they keep the online status updated if your order is bumped up (or down) at all.

 

I don't know where your math is coming from, but if your expected ship date is the 19th - you can expect it to start being produced tomorrow or Monday, and you can expect it at your door around the 13th. These dates aren't official or anything, just speculation based on experience

 

Double black... even if you're wrong that's ok. I'm going to use your formula and be a little happier in the meantime lol. If it doesn't come by then.. I'll be happier because it's almost time. Or no?

 

It still shows as in production. The Dell Rep assured me that it would change to "Shipped" with a Tracking Number within 24 hours. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for the info!@

 

What I'm curious, is what did you exactly ask? If you ask for a shipping date, they are just going to tell you the estimated ship date...what did you ask them?

 

What time of day did you order it? I ordered mine about 9:30PM on the 26th . I have overnight shipping, though!

 

Well my ship date is the 16th so if doubleblack is close, then i should be getting it really soon...or atleast it shipping really soon.

 

Yeah, I'm also interested in how/who you contacted/what you asked them for the info =)

I use Dell's chat client, but while one guy I got was able to tell me more details (it was in the Testing phase of Production, specifically) the other representative was only able to tell me it was in production, no detailed steps.

 

Mine is now in the Testing stage! X_X

 

Mine also says shipping on the 13th...Hopefully it's ready for shipping now!

 

WELL, I ordered on 26th June...first it showed that it went into production on 30th ...and then it changed to 29th June .....Estimated Delivery Date being 7/23/07,,,,,,

its been in production for 6-7 days!!!! I called Dell...and they told me theres a back order of 15 days....so I will not be getting it earlier....But when I did a live chat with a DELL agent ( I Think he was from India..judging from the Name)..he told me that I will be getting my system within 7 days!!!

I dont know what to believe except to WAIT!!!!

Mine is in the "Boxing" stage as of right now! I'm hoping for Monday or Tuesday delivery with overnight shipping.

 

Damn, I still haven't gotten a new email and I ordered on the 26th...

 

I got a call this morning from Dell, mine will be arriving on Monday afternoon.

 

As I stated in the original post, I specifically asked them what stage of the "In Production" phase my notebook was in. She informed me that my notebook was completely built and was prepping for shipment. Exact enough for you? ;-)

I'll be calling again shortly as I am still being listed as "In production". If I manage to squeez a tracking number I will post and boast!

i originaly ordered mine on the 26th... but then reordered it on the 29th to save $350 add blue tooth and a DVD-rw.

Im getting mine next week.

the worst part is i have no, 0%, idea when or what day.

EDIT: I called dell their auto status told me it was in the "boxing stage"

 

I finally was told that mine is being built today, and I can expect it to be shipped in 4-5 days. I was also upgraded to Next Day Air, and so I'll have it soon

 

Can those of you that get tracking numbers also post what country/state you are in?

Well I did what doubleblack did and boy is dell trying to get customers to love them. My shipping was changed to overnight for free as well, along with them emailing me when the status is updated.

 

Yep, they called ME and changed the shipping date. They're doing a good job so far... I'm very pleased. ZOMG everyone.. new notebooks soon! VERY VERY SOON!!!

 

DoubleBlack, you are awesome! I did the same, and at the end just told them I had forgotten to do Next-Day shipping and he bumped me for free!

Edit: I should also point out that I received free next-day shipping as a result of calling them Friday afternoon. I'm sorry to the haters, but if the product is as good as the support - I'll be purchasing from Dell permanently.

I tried to get my shipping upgraded, too, but they said I was too far in the production .

 

If you aren't in the boxing stage already, your machine won't get shipped until at least Tuesday

 

I've been in boxing since yesterday .

 

How do you know if your in boxing or not? Do you have to call them? Because when I check online it only says "In Production".

Sweet, my notebook is in the boxing stage also. But then it says (like on the website) that it will be shipped out on the 18th of July. Why would it take so long for them to ship out something that is already in the boxing stage?

 

I don't want to wait!! lol I want it now!! Mine is just getting into testing stage.

 

i tried to get my shipping upgraded over online chat, but they said they couldn't do it because i placed my order in the business department and they were the home department.

i gave the business department a call and they upgrade to next day shipping for me =)
