Just last week I ordered my Inspiron 1720 and got the SEC3155 monitor (of course) that came with the notebook.

At first glance, it seemed okay. However...just today when I was looking at different wallpapers, I've noticed what seems to be blotchy/pixilated backgrounds when viewing a pic that has some of the background out of focus.

    I have the 8600M GT vid card, 1920 x 1200 screen, and Vista...if that makes a difference.

Now...to others it may be an easy catch to find a bad LCD monitor. But I'm coming from using a Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 200 CRT that I've looked into for the past year so I'm not sure how good these LCD's are supposed to look.

Is there a link to a site or page where I can view a good LCD screen on my CRT monitor to see what a good screen looks like? I'm just not sure if my SEC is one of those bad screens or not and if I can swap it for the supposed better LG display, I want to do so.

Are you using it at its default resolution?

It could be just poor quality pictures.

Could just be that the wallpapers are not 1920x1200 so are getting blown up and pixelated?

Well, that WAS part of the problem. However, some of the 1920 x 1200 wallpaper pics that came with Vista don't exactly look as good as I think they should. Maybe I'm wrong about this and am assuming that all SEC monitors suck and am just noticing the difference between my old CRT and a typical LCD.

I would like some kind of proof before I let this rest though. Reading other threads has convinced me that the LG's are a much better screen and now I'm looking for proof so I can order one as a replacement.

This is totally wrong. Your just stuck on the hype that the screen must stink because samsung made it. This is not even what a grainy screen "problem" is. It has nothing to do with looking pixalated. I think you are just "looking" for something to be wrong with the laptop when in fact it is fine.
