    Hi all,

I was hoping I could get some opinions/knowledge on this since Dell technical support is taking so long to reply to the email I sent last night, and their number and chat lines seem to be closed/overly busy.

I bought my Inspiron 9300 last December, and it has given me loads of trouble since then. It just seemed to slow down so much quicker than the other laptops I had and would constantly freeze, etc. like it was 3+ years old. Last night I was just looking online, and the screen suddenly went black and the laptop made a "phew" sound (it kind of sounded like when you take out the battery when the laptop is running on batteries, except at the time the laptop was plugged in). From then, it wouldn't power on at all. I unplugged it from the AC Power Adapter, and tried to turn it on with just the batteries. I had no luck at getting it to do anything, so I removed the battery and kept it unplugged. A few hours later, I put the battery back in and it powered on but only went to the Windows screen and then would black out again. I thought that maybe something was wrong with the battery so, I removed the battery once more and plugged it into the AC Power Adapter. When it was plugged in it once again wouldn't power on at all. Then I tried powering it on in all ways - plugged in without batteries, plugged in with batteries, un-plugged with batteries, etc.

I think it might be gone for good (which is RIDICULOUS since it's not even a year old), but I'm not sure since I've never had to deal with notebooks crashing on me. The Dell notebook I had before lasted me 2 1/2 years before I lost it in Katrina due to flooding. Are these the classic symptoms of computers/notebooks crashing? Did this ever happen to anyone else? Was it able to be fixed?

Also, does anyone know what usually comes with the Dell 3 Yr Ltd Warranty? I'm not sure where I can find information on what that gives me the options for (like repairment, replacement, etc.)

Thank you to anyone who can help!

This sounds like a hardware problem. My laptop is running great but like many, I had it serviced twice by Dell. And.. many others have had no problems, so keep the faith...

You are going to have to play the Dell phone service game but in the end I find they will try to do the right thing.

How are you for patience? You have to make the service call; to repair or replace is Dell's option, but ask anyway.

If you have sensitive files on your laptop hard drive, you can pull it before sending back laptop but the System files may be one reason for some of your early problems so should be replaced by Dell.

    Good Luck!
