    Hey all,

Recieved my XPS M1330 last wednesday. Pleased with it so far, apart from two issues:

    1. At the top of the screen, the teeth are showing above the camera. I have seen pictures so far on this forum and mine look A LOT worse. It is becoming a serious distraction.

    2. Battery charging whine: This thing just cant keep quiet when it is charging. As already reported, when the laptop's 6 Cell battery is charging from 85% onwards, it makes an extremely loud whine, loud enough to be heard several rooms away. I cannot sleep with this noise, my bedroom isnt that small either.

Do you think Dell will order me a replacement unit, or at the very least get some engineer bloke to fix it for me (if he can)?

I truly love this laptop, but these two issues really let the system down. Big time.

I think you should contact Dell about these problems, if you have there 'on site' warranty they come to you to repair it.

Does the noise come from your battery or the adapter btw? I had a few notebook adapters that made that noise just before they broke down after a few years of use myself.

I believe it comes from inside the system itself.

That's the CPU whine I get as well, I sometimes get it when it's not charging and running purely on battery power. I've basically given up but it's much better on the M1330 than it was on the 1520 when I had one.

the teeth should not be showing, but this is not a major problem as all that needs to be done is to reset the plastic frame around the LCD.

the cpu whine is another story that is not restricted to Dell machines

It is definately not the cpu whine. The system is silent, when under load, or idle. The thing shrieks when the battery charge level hits 85% or so, up until 95%.

My replacement arrived Sept 20, which is 3 weeks later I asked for it. It was in the same condition as the first one I got with cpu whine, uneven base and broken L shape plastic when I took off the battery the first time. I would say try your luck. I am going to ask whether I can get another replacement.

Do you reckon with those problems i can haggle an extra 9 cell battery? Otherwise it doesnt really seem worth it.

You may be able to haggle an extra battery. That is not the CPU whine but rather a whine directly related to the charge itself; the two are separate and some have both.

Do you guys think the on-site dell technician can fix the gap that shows the teeth?

My top left part's gap is pretty annoying...
