Just tell them that the monitor is damaged and probably they will send a new one or fix it.it's under warranty right?

yeah you need a new lcd screen
you can have a tech do it(dont have them do it last time they had to replace something they smashed my screen with a screw driver and dented it and acted like nothing happen)
or do it your self it very easy

It's your GPU melting (for lack of a better word). Happens pretty much to all M1330 owners. M1330s overheat.

Yes, just run a search for vertical lines on this website.

I am still trying to get my money back. Next option for me will be to take Dell to small claims court (of which I know I will win given that I have all their incompentence documented) but it still takes time to write...

It's not Dell's fault, it's NVIDIA's. you probably have the 8400M GS right? well.... NVIDIA admitted last september that their chips were defective, and susceptible to melting prematurely. And it's not only for dell, it's for HP, Apple, and other... I have called Dell support in fear of having my computer break, and he said a new firmware uses the fans more efficiently to keep the GPU cool, reducing changes by a lot of any sort of meltdown..

What you have there, is indeed this problem, which is causing your graphical corruption.... it's only the beggining though.. if you dont apply the firmware update, or/and get it fixed, it will only get worse.. Furthermore, Dell, concious of this problems, offers an extra year of warranty on the GPU.... which reassured me because i have 3 years on the PC...so my GPU is secured for 4....

ps: i had the luck to talk to a North Amerian XPS costumer service representative.. much better than the hindu's which dont always seem to understand what you are telling them...

    1. your obiously not a good "Notebook Consultant" if you are not aware that there was the NVIDIA GPU problem plaguing many different chipsets

    2. you probably never used a M1330. this thing is great. Light, powerful, beautiful, afforable. What more can you want from a PC

Mine has the intel integrated graphics chip but it still fried. Sitting here waiting for my tech (late) to install new mobo.

Owning a M1330 is like sitting in the back seat of a Pinto.

That's the first time I've heard of the Intel chip in the M1330 failing due to heat. At least it seems more like the exception than the rule.

It's hard to believe but something on the motherboard seems to have been the problem.

They actually intended to replace the mobo and the memory sticks, but the new memory sticks were bad.

So the put the old memory sticks back in the new mobo and it works so far. The tech said that a bad mobo can make the memory fail diagnostics (which it was). Not sure if that is right or not.

I asked him what on the mobo could cause the problem and he said probably the Intel GPU.

    Hard to tell.

The last picture appears to have a darker blue line across the top.
