Well my dell studio 15 has arrived and as it’s quite a new model I thought I would post a little review to help out people who are thinking about getting one.
So the whole package arrived in a nice little box with a very clear and quick set up guide to get you going which was nice. As with all dell machines the first thing I did was to uninstall all the Google crap that comes with it as well as the software from different ISP networks trying to get me to switch. With this minor announce over I was able to play around with my new toy.
The laptop its self looks very nice and has a quite well designed cooling system, cool air gets drawn in the bottom and out through a vent on the back. I have heard some laptops tend to blow it out the side which is annoying if you are using a USB mouse.
It’s very quiet most of the time you can hear the gentle hum of the different parts working away and every so often the fan will need to step up a bit to keep everything nice and cool.
Being mainly a desktop user the keyboard and mouse set up does take a bit of getting use too but I found the one on the dell studio is well designed and nice to use.
I would like to tell you what the sound quality is like but I can't. Like a lot of other studio users I am having problems with the internal speakers and have been posting on the dell forums about this. But I think I will just call them tomorrow. On the good side you do have two ports for headphones and one for a mic. The extra headset port is very nice indeed.
The screen is very good quality and helped along by the ATI graphics card. I found the little GPU can handle quite a bit I ran supreme commander today on quite high settings and was getting a very good frame rate. I have also been able to use 3D Max with no problems.
Over all the studio is a really nice laptop and should be great for anyone who is into design and that sort of thing or even if you want something nice to use around the house and bring with you. It’s quite well priced for what you get and I would really recommend it to anyone looking for a laptop.
