Ive been worried for a couple of days about my Dell order. (System specs in my sig)
1. Is my screen going to be grainy? I ordered mine on 8/30 at night. I heard
they're using Phillips instead of the AUO but im still worried.
2. The shipping, I ordered on 8/30 and the estimated shipping date was 9/5
but when I pressed "SUBMIT ORDER" and the creditcard number it jumped to
9/7, a friday which then make it longer. Should I try to call them or
contact them to ask them why. (Was thinking I would get Free next day
shipping then.
3. Does the vostro have infrared so I can get a remote for my dvds?
4. Are the specs enough to run the programs below
-Microsoft 2007
-Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended
-Counter-Strike Source
-Wc3 TFT
-Nero Ultra Edition
-Age Of empire 3 Reloaded
-Maybe some newer games but not so new such as bioshock
5. Much lag on this computer? I think i might be paranoid, I could have
bought vista premium (same included price) but i built this like a tank for
windows xp.
6. Also the processor is it enough? Most people I seen are buying 1.8+ duo's
Is the 1.6 enough?
7. Also how long does the battery last?
8. I have bought two dell desktops in the past 3 years. My desktop has
crashed 2 times but its mostly my fault (little none anti virus and poor
specs) other ones lasted well. Will this crash alot?
9. When do deliveries usually arrive? I don't remember when my desktops arrive but I'm hopping its near 11-5 P.M.?
10. Was it a good idea to go with a vostro 1500? maybe a inspiron or a
lattitude was a better idea?, I spent over 15 hours staring at these forums
and different websites (gateway,HP,Apple,Dell, Toshiba) and different
retailers (bestbuy, Circuitcity, COMP USA, Walmart..lol ) but this seemed the best deal.
11. Does the inside protection of the machine, I heard it's hard drive stops and protects itself.
I had only a budget of 500-800 dollars so This was the best I could come up.
Thanks for reading and it'd be really helpful if you answered any of my questions. I been going nuts for the past 4 days .![]()

1. You'll know the day that it arrives.
2. If you need the computer 2 days earlier, call them. Otherwise, save yourself the hassle.
3. I believe it comes with a PC Card remote.
4. Yes.
5. I don't think you understand the concept, but the machine will run fine.
6. Yes.
7. 2-3 hours
8. Crashing is user-dependent. A computer will run forever by itself without crashing.
9. Any time in the normal business hours.
10. Yes.
11. Don't drop the laptop and it'll be fine. -
Thanks lithus very helpful. are you sure though that it'll last 2-3 hours? Does that mean really high activity or something like web browsing. I heard that it would last around 6 hours.
-
Average battery life of a 6 cell is 2-3 hours. If you really push it, it may hit 4.

my review: its wicked...i will answer questions if you like, but im not up to doing a review
-
Thanks boxcar, One question, does the 7200RPM matter from my 5400?
-
boxcar_racer821 Notebook Consultant
no...5400rpm will be more than sufficient for your uses. All the 7200rpm HDD would do is quicken your load times and shave a minimal time off loading large folders (i.e. when you try and open a shared folder with lots of music it hesitates a little before it loads because its alot of data). Ive played BF2 and CS:S on my 1500 with the 5400rpm and its quick IMO.

-Counter-Strike on Moderately High settings with a decent FPS
-Nero 7 Ultra Edition (Successfully burned a CD and a DVD)
-Dawn of War: Dark Crusade at 1440x900 mediem settings

Hi. I am set to recieve my Dell Vostro 1500 within the next 3 days. I can only answer a few of your questions because I have not recieved it.
2.) Yes, contact customer service via chat accesible on their website. They will say that is not possible at first but if you stay with them and keep pushing them they will allow you to get a "One Time Shipping Upgrade for Your Satisfactory" (that is exactly what they told me).
4.) I have read many reviews on this product and they all say that the performance was awesome. That is what I am expecting out of mine
10.) It is a good idea to go with Dell because they are one of the few companys to offer XP with their products and even if you buy Vista with your machine, you can downgrade to XP and get Vostro 1500 drivers via Dell's Support Website absolutely hassle-free.
Overall, I believe that my new laptop was a good deal. I was also with-in your budget range.
I am posting my machine's specs below:
