mmmm, I love it! I hope the 1400 looks as nice...
-
haha wow the antennas are that good?
-
Just a word of caution. Using those connections would be a felony:
http://money.cnn.com/2005/07/07/technology/personaltech/wireless_arrest/index.htm
So, if you do use someone elses wireless connection, you probably shouldnt advertise the fact. They do crack down on that, when they hear about it. And felonies are forever. -
strike, does ur laptop come with a XP Disc and driver CD? I wonder if the XP disc has the sata driver slipstreamed already...
-
I wonder, why two headphone jacks? Important at some buisness meetings?
-
crap, just went through all the stuff and cant find a cd
-
Any grainyness???????????????????
-
did you even read the story. he accessed the guys network and screwed around with his pc. he was also in a truck outside his house accessing his wifi
-
Grainy, grainy, some grainy??
-
I really don't think you're going to get caught using someone else's wifi if you're inside in your own home.
-
heres the windows index score right out of the box
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/975/vostroscorewb9.jpg -
i dont see any graininess
-
Shame about the poor quality pictures but I have to say I am impressed with how the laptop looks. I was not massively impressed with the looks from the few pictures available, but the all black looks so classy and the laptop generally looks very nice.
So, is the body metal??
-
How odd,
I have slightly better RAM and HD score than you
HD and RAM both 4.8 for me
I'm still using the 120gb 5400RPM HD, didn't upgrade it yet. and I'm using 2gb of Crucial DDR2-667 -
Rec'd: 1500, T5470 1.6Ghz, wxga+ glossy, 2 gb ram, 256 mb GeForce 8600GT, vista home basic, 120 mb 5400 rpm hd, bluetooth module, 6cell battery
Preliminary observations (setting up Norton on it now):
Screen: Not bad, but it does have a slight amount of graininess. Ran Works word processor, and the white sheet is more of a dirty gray. BUT, the text isn't frayed or blurry, so I can live with it. It's not (at least that I can immediately see) a major case. (I lucked out & got an LGP display!!!)
Windows score: 4.3
My video with the go GT is a whopping 5.1!!! But, the 5400 rpm hd dragged the overall windows satisfaction score. I can't gripe.
Set-up: 10 minutes. Nicely done.
Magnesium alloy all-around: confirmed.
Speed (1.6 C2D): Blazing. Near instantaneous wireless wifi response, even with the dell g card rather than intel (1st unit I didn't upgrade the wifi card on)
General sturdiness: well, it's no Latitude, but it's certainly MUCH better built than last year's Inspiron line up! Not bad.
Finish/paint: Kind of a matte finish. Doesn't seem sealed. MAY be a fader/peeler later -- I can't tell.
Keyboard: Okay, not as good as my D630, but good. The mylar sealing is absolutely perfect -- much better even than my Latitude!!
More after I try a bit of gaming. -
did you get a cd offbase
-
That's what we want
Nice mini review, good to hear that the laptop isn't a lemon... just wishing I got the GT now, ahh well
-
No, only for works. I was surprised.
-
offbase - now that you've said that your 1.6ghz is "blazing" i'm definitely considering ordering a 1.6 instead of a 1.8. it'll save me $115 too. so thank you for that!
-
By the way, thanks, Dell, for making sure I got the computer timely after the shipping questions ... they even left a message on my voicemail to ensure it was me who signed for it.
-
Definately save the money, Ashley ... any C2D with an 800 mhz front side bus will excede any software hardware requirement out there right now. I got the t7300 for my d630 and found I didn't need it.
-
Question about the black finish...Does it attract fingerprints as much as the Jet Black lid color on the Inspirons? If not, I'll probably end up getting a Vostro.
-
no fingerprint problems.
-
no matter how hard you try, you can't get finger prints on it.
-
I'm installing Medieval II right now to check some of the gaming aspects.
-
Congratulations on arrival of your Vostro, hopefully i can save the money for the 1500, looks so sexy =)
Only 15 Ive been saving for a year, and i have $500, getting there
-
so guys, if you ordered vista premium/basic it doesn't come with the actual vista disk? That kind of sucks.
-
sorry, doubled.
-
That it does!
QUESTION: It came with a 90 watt power supply. Can I use that with my Latitude D630, in place of the 65 watter it came with? -
The Vostro's are just too good for the price! whats the catch dell?
-
theres a tiny bomb inside, its designed to exploded 1 second after your warranty expires. it also steals sensitive business info, which Dell would sell to your competitors.
-
wow this is really awesome.. i cant wait now.. what to do about no discs though?? i am prob going to do a clean format when i get it and add vista premium which i already have or maybe ultimate not sure yet but then where would i get the drivers and such from for it??
also how is the hd partitioned?? am i going to have to screw with it to get rid of dell's mess they usually leave behind of hidden partitions??
thanks again
for those that got the 11g cards.. which router are you using or could you recc what is the best out right now.. and how well does the dell 1300 really work?? i am still poss going to call to upgrade to the 11n card but if the g works as well as you are saying ill leave it alone. thanks again -
I wouldn't recommend that. Its almost 30% increase in power, the D630 might not be able to cope with it
-
just tried bf2 on high settings and all i can say is that it was choppy
. it definitely needs 2gb of ram
their is only a 2gb partion and get about 100gb of free space -
Congratulations! it does look great!
-
boxcar_racer821 Notebook Consultant
of course it needs 2gb! Youll see a big improvement when/if you upgrade though, and ram is pretty cheap so you save money by not buying directly from dell.
-
yeah, that is what i was planning to do next week when i was expecting to receive this laptop
-
dell give us 4 stinky CDs, and not a single one of them is the OS...... even the inspiron i ordered 1 month ago included the OS disk.
-
Gaming: I'm getting flicker in the background (grass) pixels on Medieval II during the other teams' move phase .... never seen this before. Any ideas?
-
yeah seriously... where the hell is my OS CD? I'm irked! although it looks hella sexy. what the hell Dell...btw, i will create a thread tonight for my review with benchmarks and stuff
-
Did they install Vista 64-bit or 32-bit?
-
Didn't check that, but I'm sure its 32 bit.
-
Where are the glamour shots? I need Vostro porn!
Congrats on getting yours guys. -
Ahaha sure hope not
-
does it at least include the drivers disk??
also is it worth doing 4gb of 800mhx with this config... since it has the 800mhz fsb i was wondering if it could utilize the newer 800mhz ram.. and it 4gb really worth it.. is there anything that wouldnt be able to run with 2gb good enough.. thanks -
just ran 3dmark06 and got a score of 3168 with my wxga screen. not bad considering my main pc gets 700 points
http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultanalyzer.jsp?projectType=14&XLID=0&UID=10266093
im going to go to circuit city and get me 2gb of ram for $90. newegg has some for $40 + $5 shipping so its not worth waiting to save about $3 -
Update your video drivers. www.laptopvideo2go.com

Do you guys think it's worthwhile to get the 256M graphics card? It's so expensive!
I like to do shooters, especially BF2. -

a plea to anyone who has theirs yet, can you test battery life and heat issues including noise of fan and what not, thats a main concern of mine when buying a laptop
thanks in advance -
I'm pretty sure if they didn't give you an OS cd you can call and they'll send you one.
My Vostro 1500 has arrived!
