I got my vostro via a courier the other day and i started putting my files onto the computer etc. I came back and the screen was not visible but all i could see were lines going up and down the screen so i didnt know what to do, i couldnt shut it down via the menu and so i had to reset it by taking the battery out, when i restarted it after this, it came up with hardware malfunction on a blue screen and then went off again, eventually i got it to a screen where it gave me the option to "search for solutions" which i did and it said the graphics was malfunctioning but was fixed however it has been happening again and this time it wont fix itself, has anyone any ideas whats going on or what the problem may be?

Also, has anyone got the number for the Dell support team which is open on a sunday i could only find one for mon-fri

    Cheers

How about upgrading/re-installing the graphics driver.

still seeing the lines across the screen at startup, and eventually a startup problem wizard fixes the problems but it only lasts until the next time i startup before it does it again

Sorry for being off-topic, but United will rip Everton a new one in the next game week, like last season. :)

And oh, thank you for Wayne! :D

You should probably get a hold of Dell--sounds like they sent you a lemon. They should replace it for you.

    Good luck!

well ive just been on the phone with one of their rep's, its hard to discuss anything really as they are somewhere in the far east and their training doesnt seem the best, i was trying to tell the woman the problem and she ignored it and carried on regardless

Anyway, i am running a extended test on the system which lasts for 2 hours apparently and then their ringing me back, so i have to sit here for 2 hours now,

Not best pleased, they say it could be compatibility issues with some of my games/software because of windows vista

I have installed Champ manager 01/02 so im wondering if because the game is really old if that has compatibility issues with vista? Anyone any ideas?

Have you tried using the recovery partition to reset it to factory settings?
