I called on the 2nd, about an hour after I got my 1530, let Dell know my 1680x1050 LCD had some backlight bleed, and that I would rather have the 1440x900 on my exchange. They said ok, and a new one would be shipped. That was awesome enough...a free upgrade to a LED screen.

I got my order number about 20 minutes ago, called, and it is already in boxing! Order was submitted yesterday, June 3rd.

    Way to go Dell!

I felt the same way. Five weeks was ridiculous for a computer. At least after the sale, they take care of their customers.

At least they can handle that I guess...

I'm trying to get my order changed to the LED LCD (since I've been delayed anyway...and this time I'm going with the 9 cell) but my sales guy didn't call back today like he was supposed too...

I'm growing more and more upset with dell...

Yeah. I'd wait. I am sure your system will have something wrong with it...when you do the exchange, try and get it out of them then.

    Good luck.

Mattocs you and I had similar wait times I believe (a month+) and I received my laptop last Thursday but I have not had much time to fool with it due to work.

Now that I have the time to really get into it I have the humped keyboard, noisey Optiarch optical drive, Samsung screen with disappointing brightness.

I am considering calling Dell today to request a replacement and I don't want another 1680 x 1050 screen. I plan on requesting a 1440 x 900 LED but wanted to get your take on it before I call Dell.

I will copy/paste what I told Matthileo in another thread:

It was very easy. Perhaps because they no longer carry the 1680x1050, they are now more willing to give out whatever screen a unsatisfied buyer wants?

I called within about an hour of getting my system. It was quick and easy. I tried tech support first, they said to call customer care, because they were the ones who could give out the free upgrades/replacements.

Other than a small bit of the backlight bleed on the bottom, mine was damn perfect. It had the Optiarc drive, but only made noise when a disk was put in or ejected. It had a flat keyboard and sat level.

Good luck, although you shouldn't need it.

I placed my order for an m1530 at 7:00 PM on the 2nd. I didn't pay attention to the status until this morning - I called at 5:00 AM and it was already in boxing. The ESP is the 10th of this month, and EDD is the 11th- knock on wood.

For those of you still concerned about your own orders, I'll post the specs so you can see what may be causing delays. Software not included.

    ∙ XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache)
∙ Tuxedo Black Casing XPS M1530
    ∙ 4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm, for XPS M1530
∙ 15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LED LCD with Camera for XPS M1530
    ∙ 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    ∙ 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive for XPS M1530
    ∙ 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive for XPSM1530
    ∙ Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-card
∙ 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, for XPS M1530
    ∙ Dell Wirless 355 Bluetooth Module (2.0+EDR)

Pretty sure that's everything worth noting.

Those are some impressive turn arounds I must say. Nothing that even remotely compares to the 1 month I had to wait for my original one to be built and delivered.

It seems Dell is rising slowly from the grave and picking up the pace, at last!

Yea I really hope mine does not come in defective... but considering how it went from kitting to building to testing and finally boxing in a matter of 8 hours I should probably expect the worst.

K, it's been shipped as of tonight and should be delivered tomorrow. That makes it a total of 4 days since I placed the order until I was holding the computer (if all goes well).

Hey mattocs, I really want to know HOW you got those specs for 1378....that's pretty insane...I configured the exact same system on the dell site, and even with the 25% off coupon, it comes to 1900 something...not to mention I didn't add the Spare AC adapter...can you please let me know who you contacted to get your deal...I will instantly buy an XPS m1530 if I could get what you got, AND for that price...

I bought it in April with the 40% off deal, and then got an additional 12% off via EPP. (My wife gets that through her employer).

Some say that they will NOT combine coupons/discounts and EPP discounts. I got a nice sales rep who would combine them. Didn't have to fight it.

Then, I got the LED when my 1680x1050 screen was crappy. I called up customer care, told them this bull**** was not going to happen to me, and told them instead of another crappy 1680x1050, I wanted a free upgrade to the LED screen. The guy I was talking to OK'd it with his supervisor, and it was sent off.

I revived it about an hour ago. Its great.

You need to get it when there is a great discount going on, get an EPP discount if you can, and make sure they will combine them. If I wouldn't have waited 5 weeks for my laptop, I might have kept the first, as it wasn't bad at all...just a bit of back light bleed.

BTW, EPP stands for employee purchase program.

It was for three days in April. 22, 23, and 24? I didn't even order on those days. I just got the quote when the deal was going down, and ordered on the 28th.

Mannnnnn, I feel so ripped off right now...Its either this or the compal ifl90, and that thing looks uglier, doesn't have a LED lit screen, weighs more, has a 200GB 7.2k hdd, and 1 Yr warranty only (its about 1260 including shipping).

The customer reps in XPS Live Chat told me that they couldn't give me the April promotional discount for obvious reasons....do you know who was the rep you talked to, so I can could have a word with him?

For what its worth smiller92, I ordered a 1530 w/ similar specs ( only difference was tuxedo black, 200GB 5400 hard drive, and a LED screen) on 6/6 and have a ESD of July 2nd.

But I checked my status today and its already in boxing, so I'm hoping it comes sooner than July 2nd... If the 6 cell battery shortage gets resolved I would think a lot of the 1530 orders would get sped up...

Looks like my replacement system is going to be replaced. There are some dents on the palmrest that I just noticed.

Oh well. All I have to do it swap the hard drives and be ready to go...so they can keep sending me all the replacements they want.
