After a Dell technician replaced my heatsink yesterday, my computer runs much cooler than before. I am just curious about other people's m1210 CPU/GPU temperature.
Here's my data: (from i8kfangui)
word processing, internet browsing: around 52C (CPU) 55C(GPU)
Playing Warcraft w/ highest resolution and all effects on: around 60C (CPU) 64(GPU)
My fan would almost never go on high speed now.
The CPU temperature would go to 70 easily before the heatsink was replaced. (The Dell technician said it was misinstalled previously and showed me how that could cause bad cooling)
It'll be great if you can share your CPU/GPU temperature with me. Thanks![]()

My temps are in the lower to mid 30's c at light load, mid to upper 40's at full load. I keep my fan running low constantly, then kick into high around 40. Gpu stays around 40 when not in use, mid 50's when pushed for a few hours.

Wonder how many M1210s out there have misinstalled heatsinks
Dont they subject all of their notebooks to quality control ??
-
I sense that Phoenix is getting really worried about his M1210 lol!
don't worry too much otherwise you'll have a bad view on a product that hasn't arrived yet...
i read a LOT LOT of bad comments before I got my M1210. When I received it, it was NOTHING like what I've read. Nice screen, beautiful (like really... beautiful design... better than a macbook), fast, light, and thin.
Now... when I look back at those comments, I suspect that over 90% were from users that didn't even own a M1210. -
Just kidding
.
I know that people only post in these forums when they have a problem. Therefore we cant actually take all the negative comments about a particular model like M1210 and say that its bad, because there are thousands of people out there with M1210s who are happy with their M1210. And I've worked with computers long enough to know about their issues. I'm not that worried, seriously.
Just wondering how they missed something like an incorrect heatsink installation. Thats all.... -
that certainly put a smile on my face ... thnks Sirius -
What can I say... it's a well built computer. that's for sure.

Not to bring a dead thread back to life, but my M1210 is running a core temp of 63C and a peak of 70C. I'm not running anything intensive at all right now (firefox, outlook, a few other small programs).
Do you think I have a misinstalled heat sink? What do I tell Dell when I call them? Thanks! -
I dunno, my GPU runs at a solid 56-60C too..

My temps still stay in the low 30's light load, and never reach 60c , even after a 12 hour run of P95's torture test on both cores, try taking control of the fans, if your temps dont drop dramatically, call dell immediately. Straight out of the box both my M1210's ran mid 50's light load.
-
mine runs at 55c even when it's underclocked to 1g, should I call dell to replace the heatsink?
-
It also depends on the room temperature. For ex. the place where I live the average summer temperature is around 42 C(avg. temp. is increasing every year - thanks to global warming) so when I start my laptop the avg. temperature of processor is around 39 C, gpu 40 C, harddisk 38 C. After 1hr the temp. shoots upto 50 - 55 for processor, 59 for gpu and 55 for hardisk although in this 1 hr I am using my laptop for internet browsing and watching movies only. So laptop temperature depends on environmental condition also.
Also maximum temperature under normal load condition remains constant around 55 C for processor and 62 C for gpu with fan at full speed. -

Is that with stock fan settings? If so that sounds about right. My temps stay low because I dont allow it to get hot in the first place, air cooling can be effective, but it can only do so much, at standard settings its adequate to keep you from melting down, but I'd much rather trade quieter operation for a significantly cooler machine, by running the fan low constantly, and kicking into high early my load temps can typically be lower than idle temps at stock settings. Stock I believe the fan doesnt engage low speed till about 50c, and all it can do then is maintain that temp, by running low constantly, heat doesnt get a chance to build up, its expelled as it generated, then by having it come in high in the 40's even the most intense apps will keep your machine around 50, the only drawback is increased fan noise, which I dont mind one bit for the end result. -
Can someone post me a link to the temp monitor program? I also have my CPU set to full speed (2ghz) at all times.
-
sorry to have such a lame first post, but i'm wondering if anyone here would be able to help me with a problem i'm having with fan control.
In previous posts it sounds like users were able to run the temperature control feature on the program they have for fan speeds and at certain temps, the fan will run at a certain speed. I am using i8kfangui and trying to use the automatic temperature control, but it will never recognize the temperature range outside of the first level (ie: the temp control only runs the fan at the speed set for the lowest temps in the profile). Has anyone else had this problem on the m1210 and is there a fix for this? Direct fan control and whatnot works, but just the tempature control does not. Thanks in advance. -
Where is the program to check to CPU temp? Mine feels really hot on the side where the fan blows. I almost cannot touch it.
-
The main problem I have is with the viewing angles. anyway.
Since the pentium mobile platform most laptops don't get into the danger zone until about 90c and don't shutdown until 100. I know, it sounds crazy doesn't it?
Reseating your heatsink with some as5 can drop 5-10 degrees. (always the FIRST thing I do on any laptop) -
Light Load:
CPU: 55
GPU: 57
Idle when I clean out my fans:
CPU:35
GPU: 50
Heavy Load when I havent cleaned out fans:
CPU: 70
GPU: 75 -
Right now listening to music, chatting on the internet, and suring the web, my temps are as follows:
CPU - 123 F
GPU - 113 F
HD - 102 F
Memory - 134 F
They are all very reasonable. That's without any kind of fan control, I just have the program there so I can see how the temps are. -
what's with this fahrenheit crap...
j/k
My XPS m1210 is much cooler now
