I would love to know how my XPS2 configuration would do against some of the graphics intensive games out there at the moment (BF2 seems to be one of the most extreme..).

Any pros/cons to this system. I heard there are problems with the LCD, glittering/leakage/etc??? Any extra information like that would be helpful!

    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 (2 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
    80GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
512MB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm (I'm thinking of upgrading to 2Gigs of RAM manually (via newegg?).. but would like help deciding what RAM to go with??)
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 6800 Ultra
17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™ (Screen problems?)

Thanks guys!! :) Again any information on the LCD problems and which memory to get/how to install it would be greatly appreciated!

That system will be able to breeze through any game on the market today at maximum graphics, if you get the RAM upgraded. The Go6800 Ultra is the most powerful notebook GPU on the market right now.

I bought 2GB of this Transcend off of newegg.com for my I9300, and it works just fine. The same RAM works with the XPS2. You could also try Crucial if you're willing to pay a little more; they're a very good brand. The instruction manual that comes on your computer has instructions on how to replace the RAM.

As for the screen, I've seen the XPS2's screen in person, it looks fantastic, no graininess or sparkling at all, sharp picture. It's much better than the I9300's screen; then again, it ought to be, you're paying $1000+ more for the XPS2 than the I9300.

I just bought pretty much the same machine. I am going to upgrade the memory later with either cosair or kenningston (sp). They were the best memory makers from 10 years ago when I used to be in to tinkering with computers.

I couldn't not get the xps 2, it was only a few hundred more than a equally equipped 9300. I could have saved more on the 9300 by getting lesser components but I tried to compair apples to apples. Plus I don't buy computers that often. Don't laugh but my current laptop I got off ubid for about $500 in 2001 and is a 366 mhz with 6gig hd. So I tend to hang on to them for a while.

The 35% discount is the reason I bought now, instead of in about 3-5 months, which is when I would have.

    here are my specs.

2ghz; couldn't justify the 250 (after discount) more for .13 faster.
512 ram; again thier mem is expensive
100 gig hd; don't want to pay the 150 extra for 20 gig less but faster rpm
cvd rw; so I can take copies of my movies on rotations and assignments
    2195 with bluetooth
    Extra batt
    Backpack
4 year premium warranty; I am in the military and this will be going many places, so I liked the idea of the accidental coverage, only 50 more than 3yr

$1262 off, $2343 total, I figured what the heck, go for the big dog.

Like I said I biult up a 9300 exactly the same and it was only a couple hundred more, then I trimmed the 9300 down a little to a realistic buy, slower processor, less mem, and it was barely under $2000 with the discount.

Only thing that sucks now is I have to wait till the 21st which is the estimated delivery date. "patience grashoppa"

Hey whats up? I excited to about the XPS Gen 2, I am getting mine in the next week...my configuration is if you wanted to know...Pentimum M 2.0 with 1GB ram, 80GB hard drive, with the combo drive and the wireless card (B/G) and everything else is pretty much the same as everyone elses. I cant wait, I am so stoked. But I have a question I know the XPS Gen 2 has two fans but how well does it keep the notebook cool because I am an architecture major at Carnegie Mellon and I wanted to know if i needed to get like a laptop cooler or so? Keep me posted.

    2195 with bluetooth??

I was confused about that part..
    I just selected the FREE! Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)..
What's the difference between the cards?

I'll be at a college (under their network).. soo... does that make a difference?

the 2200 is b,g compliant card
the 2195 is a,b,g compliant. I wan't the flexability so I can take advantage of any band I come across.

The dell 350 bluetooth is for your cell phones and such.

Hrm, confusing, I'm asuming that the 2200 is just fine though?
As far as bluetooth goes, I don't think I ever use that.

Well aqs far as bluetooth goes I use mine constantly. Turns out MS makes a bluetooth mouse so you can use it without a dongle also I sync my Ipaq via BlueTooth and now I install all of my Ipaq software through it as well. For $30 or what ever it was it is a bargain at least for me. I don't want to carry anything with me I don't have to.

To use the mouse I just boot the machine with the mouse in the general area of the computer.
