I appear to have the dying 7900 gs problem that a few people have had with the Dell laptops that featured this card. I get artifacts on startup and in browsing no matter what i've tried. Gaming has become more and more difficult and blue screens are common. Ive reformatted, tried new drivers, ...etc. Ive always monitored the temperature on this computer and it never exceeded safe limits. :(. Im killing myself for not getting the 3 year warranty.

I am giving up on this computer and I am wondering if there is any way i can make some money off this computer. I still have a pristine working screen. 100gb 7200rpm hd, etc. With just a dysfunctional videocard, is this worth anything?

    There's always ebay.
Or maybe Dell would take it as a trade-in, giving you credit toward a new computer -- maybe $200 or $300 off.

I experienced similar problems with mine, except mine wouldnt boot into windows, only safemode. I foolishly changed the voltage on my card which I think lead to its death. I think 1.0v would have kept the card alive, but I kept it at 1.24v at like 480core or something.

I ended up replacing it with a x1400 I purchased from Dell. There are a lot of 7900GS on ebay that can be had for under $200.

My advice is to try and flash the card back to stock clocks and reload new drivers. If that doesnt work then it looks like your card is dead sadly.

    Hi,

My name is Todd and I'm with Dell's online outreach program. That model of system is relatively new, have you confirmed that your service contract is no longer active? If it is you can get the system repaired. You can check the service contract status off our support site, http://support.Dell.com. There is a link in the upper left for Warranty Status that will let you know if your contract is active, and how long you have remaining on it.

I'm not sure how much you can get selling that system if the video on it is having issues, but it is a relatively new model with what should be pretty decent specs. You may want to see about repairing it before selling it, I think you'd make more. We don't do a "trade in" option on systems, unfortunately, but you do hae some options.

I'll stop back to see if there is anything that I can do to help you.

    Thank you,

    Todd
