    Hi,
I am really sort of jealous cause my system is in a way better compared to his configuration:
    Acer Aspire (dont know model)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 ghz
    1 GB ram(must be 667 mhz)
    Nvidia 7300 128 Dedicated
    Windows Xp media center

I used his system and his startup(till the logon screen)is faster cause the bar moves 4-5 times and mine moves 8-9 times, then after everything is loaded(including the acer bloatware, bluetooth, etc.) his pc performs faster than mine. He has four times more programs in his start menu on the right corner than me but still his pc performs faster. Example: his my computer launches faster than mine (btw mine started loading slower for some reason a few days back, maybe since i installed doom 3 and i have defragmented my hdd) & then the time it takes to load a theme from windows blinds.

Will a clean install solve this? All i want is a clean install of windows with media direct. Will it make my pc boot faster and have a faster response time in windows?

    Thanks

I think you answered your own question... for one thing, windows blinds will kill your load time! This is a massive program that will affect your start up and ability to run programs. My brother in law has it on his I6000 and it runs slower then my first pentium 166!! Don't get me wrong, I liked the program for awhile. A clean install will help a lot, Dell also throws a lot of programs on (including one that has been mark as malware) their systems. everytime a customer calls me with a problem like this, the first thing I do is delete some of the stuff the system comes with. A clean install will work better. aslo go and snag the bios update from support.dell.com. this will prevent some errors after a clean install. If you need help installing media direct, I have been told there are instructions somewhere on this site... hopefully one of the moderators can point you there.

Thanks mate but the load time of my pc was the same even after installing windows blinds.
For some reason my cpmputer and anything related to explorer loads after 3 seconds whereas before it used to load at the exact moment.

Which of the following will perform the fastest on my system?
    a)Windows Xp Home
    b)Windows xp 64 bit
c)Windows Vista Home Premium(i dont mind it being a little slower than 64 bit)

its windows blinds. it screws up your computer badly. i had it on my sony. had to reformat it. also, you should try using google to find ways to make xp faster.

    one way is this.

    1.click the start menu
2.open the run application and type "msconfig"
    3.go to the boot tab
4.change the timeout to 3 seconds
5.go to the startup tab, and disable some unnecessary applications.
6.click ok, restart computer, and upon restart there will be a dialog box.
7.put a check in the dialog box not to show up during each startup.

You don't seem to really want to reformat and reinstall Windows. If that's the case, just delete unwanted/unneeded programs, use msconfig to stop programs not needed at startup, and services.msc to stop processes not required. Your notebook should speed up quite a bit.

DELL bloatware is probably the biggest reason + Window blinds making it even slower. A clean installation is the best solution. Windows XP is faster than Vista . I'd suggest a 32bit version because of driver issues.

Another reason could be your hard disk. If you friend has a 7200RPM disk while you have a 5200RPM, that will also explain faster boot up and program load times.

Maybe your have an anti-virus/firewall running and he doesn't?

Just a thought; it would make a noticeable difference.

Vista is actually faster than XP if you got alot of ram and cut down on the visual stuff. It loads more stuff into memory.

Anyway IMO if you want best performance on XP go with XP Pro. Cuts down on alot of the junk.
