One of the friends forgot to turn off his M1210 before putting it inside his bag.
Around 2 hours later he found out that the laptop was on and quickly turned it off.
Now when he turns on the laptop, the power and the HDD lights both light up for 2-3 seconds and then the laptop turns off again. No beeps, nothing.
What I guessed was a dead mobo, I wanted to what are the possibilities before he gives it to have it repaired.Due to sanctions there is no direct DELL support and he should either have it shipped or to give it to some repair center. He wants to estimate the possible damages.

sounds pretty bad. usually when they overheat, they will shutdown themselves...not sure where to start on diagnosing it though

    Hi,

Even connected to the AC the laptop does not work either? Try charging the batt for several ours. Does the batt have a charge indicator on it? So you can see if it is completely drained or not?

    Greetings.

The battery is alright, but he tested it with AC power (and with the battery removed) didn't help either.

A simpler way to check if the mboard is dead is to try media direct. with the computer turned off and connected to power, click on media direct button on you laptop and see if it runs MD......

the repair center option isn't too bad because they use super fast shipping. personally i got my laptop back within a week of sending it to dell....

but then again, the repair center people are complete idiots. i wrote a note telling them to replace my hard drive because it was making clicking noises (it was the 2nd time they replaced my HD) but the main problem i complained about was heat issues. they ended up sending the laptop back to me saying that they will send a hard drive later because the repair center didn't have a 60 gb hard drive and didnt do a single thing about the heat issue.

when i got the laptop back, the guy who packed the laptop in the box basically just threw the thing in so one of the grills in the back was broken.
