So now my m1330 is a completely black/gray screen, everytime I turn it on. Display drivers seem to be totally messed.

    Obviously, I'm still under warranty so I'm ok...right? They'll send me a new one...correct?

My only issue is that I'm Canadian, so I bought my m1330 through dell canada in august, and now i'm in the UK for school. Will Dell UK hook me up, or am I toast?

Any replies appreciated, as I am a student with no laptop/internet! Heh, thanks.

So long as you didn't overclock the CPU or GPU to the point of meltdown then you should be able to replace the unit (or its parts) under warranty.

Is it totally dead or only no colors? If the display is dead try to hook it up on an external display.

Its just a black/gray screen, so CPU is running fine, but no display whatsoever.

Argh, so pissed of right now.

External display is a good idea, but unfortunately dont have one.

cant believe this happened to me here in UK, damn!

Most importantly - what additionally warranty coverage did you purchase?

I'm canadian too and bought a dell before I went to university in London a few years ago. At that time, I was told be Dell.ca that I had to buy a minimum 3 year extended warranty plan to get coverage internationally / from Dell UK.

Not sure what the situation is now, as international coverage doesn't seem to be explicitly mentioned. If you are within 90 days of your purchase date Dell should fix it regardless but that could mean sending it back to Canada.

If you don't have the propoer international warranty, don't expect much from Dell UK. Customer service in the uk is crap at the best of times - even when it is an obligation - and the different Dell international affiliations operate very independently.

Hopefully you are covered and good luck. If Dell.ca tries to wiggle out on you, just be a persistent sob and hopefully they give in. You may have to cover some costs in the interim.

I didnt purchase any extra warranty, and I bought my m1330 end of July. But every XPS laptop has 1 year warranty right?

My laptop is working now, its hit and miss. Sometimes it works in safe mode, other times its just a black screen. So I'm hoping when I go back home to Canada for xmas, a reformat will be the cure....

I would try get a replacement while you're home and not have to worry if it'll happen again.

I dunno about you mate, but "no display what-so-ever" to me means that nothing at all is showing up...so DOS wont make a difference.

By the sounds of it, he cant even see the BIOS settings, never mind anything else!

can you see the bios screen at boot? if you can your fine, your laptop doesnt have anything wrong, YOU just need to fix the driver problem.

Sorry for the delay in replies, busy day at school.

Yeah, sometimes when I turn it on, I cant see BIOS screen. Just black screen. Other times I can see BIOS screen and then I press F8 to go into Safe Mode. It honestly is hit and miss. Usually I just keep pressing power button over and over again until I get BIOS Screen.

So here's my follow up question.

I'm coming back to Canada on Dec.17th, Leaving to go back to UK Jan.2. Will that be enough time for Dell to send me a new laptop...2 weeks?

I really dont want them sending me a laptop to Canada when I am in UK...

You think if I call Dell UK they will honour my warranty and I can do a swap here in England?

Again, replies appreciated, frustrating not having a sweet m1330 not working properly, really do love this laptop!

    1) means your screen is f*cked!

    2) should be enough time, but might not be! All depends on the lead time at the time of ordering!

    3) I've said this 3 times now, and your prob gonna ignore me again...but why dont you just CALL DELL UK?! The number is on their site. However make sure you have 30 mins to an hour spare if you call in the evenings (thats how long you will be on hold)!

    Heh, Cheers mate.

I want to call Dell UK, but I only have mobile phone here at uni, and its 15p/minute (yes, I am cheap, but I'm hoping to have a mobile monthly contract sorted out by this week, so then I'll be able to call Dell). Getting a mobile monthly contract has been another disaster, since i'm not a UK citizen!

But yeah, hopefully I'll call Dell UK by end of this week.

So you're pretty sure my screen is toast and I might as well get a new laptop
eh? I was hoping that maybe a reformat would do it, but maybe you guys are right and I should just demand for a replacement.

Argh, $2K for a laptop and have to deal with this crap. Kinda ticked at Dell, but this laptop is sick so I'll put up with it!

if you cant even see the BIOS, then the screen is gone!
