Ok, well I've been searching the forums and I have some questions for you guys and girls. First, a media direct problem. I tried to play Transformers ( a real dvd, not a copied one) and media direct tells me that the dvd's region code does not match my drive's region code and so it must be changed. It doesn't make sense. It's a region 1 dvd and the movie plays through
WMP but not through MD.
Second, I know you see this this a lot but just to be sure this ram is good for my 1530, correct? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141342 The brand doesn't really impact performance does it? And to utilize all 4 gigs of RAM, has anyone successfully installed a 64-bit version of Vista on an m1530 yet? Oh, I forgot an important question. Would buying RAM from a third party(a company other than Dell) void my warranty?
Lastly, when i do a clean install of Vista, will Internet explorer be reinstalled with my drivers and such? Thanks a lot everyone!

I had that problem at first with the dvd in Media Direct. All I had to do was press the media direct button without the DVD in and run through the first setup, then my DVDs worked perfectly in media direct.
If you havent done that yet, then it should solve your problem. -
thanks but I already have run the initial setup...
-
Hmm, I don't know then. Sorry.
-
Nevermind...fixed the problem. Thanks. Can nayone help me out with the ram questions?
-
how did u solve the problem. about the ram the company doesnt matter as long as u get a lifetime warrenty. it does not void your warrenty also. when u do a clean install u will have to install all the drivers yourself.and yes u can install vista 64bit on the 1530

Dell media direct blows, I'd get rid of it.

I don't know what I did wrong in the first place. Re-running the initial setup didn't work so I restored the default settings and it was fine. To install 64-bit vista do I have to buy the OS or is there a cheaper way to upgrade from 32-bit? And would you recommend that or should I upgrade to 4gb ram and accept vista only recognizing 3.5gb?
-
-
...I don't find anything wrong with it. But anyways as to my OS and RAM question...
-
if You upgrade to 64-bit then you can use the 4GB ram ...
-
How can I upgrade to vista 64-bit without paying for a new OS?

If you're within 30 days (give or take depending on who you talk to) of ordering, you might be able to get a 64-bit Vista DVD sent out to you.
Don't hold your breath though.....as nizzy said, unless you order it with 64-bit, you probably won't get it after. -
-
haha, has that really worked for anyone?
-
Calling up and saying "It wasn't in the box" will likely get you a reply of "It wasn't in the box because you didn't order it". -
If you can't get it from Dell, you can order a 64bit disk from Microsoft for $7-$9 S&H according to the following thread:

I almost did this the other night but decided to wait until Vista SP1 is out so I can get a disk w/ SP1 integrated into it. -
Thanks everyone. I just spoke to a Dell rep who told me that I can not get a 64-bit disc from them because Dell does not support it. He also told me that if I could get a pirate version, it might be worth a try but otherwise it would be a waste of money to upgrade because 64-bit vista would require specific drivers that I wouldn't have. Further, if i needed technical support, Dell would require me to revert back to 32-bit Vista before they could help. When I asked him about using the anywhere, anytime disc to upgrade, he said he had not heard of it and doubts it could work because the 64-bit version of Vista is an entirely different OS. He did not think that an "upgrade" was possible but that if it is, "that's amazing". My question is has anyone actully successfully upgraded to 64-bit vista using such a disc on an m1530?
-
If not, has anyone upgraded in such a manner on any Dell notebook?
My mind is all over the plac
