I don't use System Recovery or any of that, I set up a backup on my external hard drives and use the extra space.
I can't believe Dell has the balls to put the recovery files on a partition (drive D has 10 gigs and the recovery files are taking 6.35 GB). I want to get rid of all those files (can I just delete them?), and merge the 2 partitions.
Can I do it and if yes, how?
Also, where are the Dell Media Direct files installed? I don't know if I wanna keep that either (how does it work?), that's only about 2 gigs though right?
Any help would be appreciated.
BTW I have Acronis Disk Director installed (can I merge C and D with that?)

You can merge partitions using Vista's built-in Partition Manager at:
Start > Computer > Right-Click > Manage > Disk Management

MD is on a hidden partition, you can't delete that from inside the vista os. you can boot from the supplied vista disc, and delete the partitions from there. so you can combine both MD and recovery partitions into 1.

Why, exactly, does Dell create the partition? Aside from keeping MD separate, is there any advantage to partitioning?
My new Inspiron 1720 came with a Recovery D drive partition, help
