So I read all the reports yesterday about Dell and Google "possibly" entering a $1 Billion deal to bundle Google Desktop, Google Toolbar and Google as the default page for every Dell machine shipped and then today get an e1705 and, like, wow. It took a day for this "possible" deal to happen. Checkout the screenshot of the new e1705 I have, it has Google desktop installed (search bar at the bottom, and shortcut on the desktop), Dell branded Google search homepage and Google toolbar. Not to mention record amounts of other garbage software.

Yeah Firefox, Thunderbird(business email), and gmail(personal) are the only way to go.
Was the homepage set to www.google.com/ig/dell when you got it in December?

I have no idea what was on my 6000d I can only guess. I never even bothered to boot factory before reformating. But, I think I have a disk somewhere with google tool bar, and really they're are more thangs that come with it now than I can afford to bet on. Seems like every other program I install and I take it right back off every time. I use gmail mostly for storage, school related stuff, and the last few things I signed up for. For the rest, I stick with my nearly 10 year old email account.

I recently bought a Dell B130 (well, November) and it certainly did not have all this Google stuff on it and the homepage was a dell.com page, the homepage now is www.google.com/ig/dell

When I read the reports this week I was under the impression in a few months we might see this, but if according to you guys this stuff has been installed for awhile, I guess the news reports are just sort of lagging on what's actually happening now.

I'm growing a little tired of some of the stuff going on with the company. Really I haven't used the search engine for a long time. I like wisenut.

But I supposed that Dell and others are looking for something to replace the AOL Free Trial. I've been hearing some wild rumers about AOL really.

Oh, AOL and EarthLink are on there -- nothing has been taken off, just stuff added as far as "Freeware"

Yeah I think they are getting a lot Big Brotherish. For all of you who are using the Google Desktop, even if you think you are not sending info to Google, guess what, you are.

Your Gmail is searched by Google to match you to advertisers. Can you say built in spyware?

Lots of things are very fishy from this crew. If you don't like Microsoft you shouldn't trust Google with this information either.

    Google and China?
