Well, If anyone can recall my previous thread --- on the BS Dell put me through when I called in frustration, with demands that must be met to resolve my 1520's list of problems -- this is the follow up on Dells actions and the results.
Quoted below, is a recap of my demands and problems if anyone is curious.
So the manager called Friday, Jan 4th, and said they would replace everything on my machine that I found defective and faulty. He asked I take the machine apart and get the part# and serial numbers off the parts to ensure I got exactly what I wanted, not more wrong and defective parts.
The parts arrived yesterday, Jan the 9th.
The Parts I Received,
I received, all new casing for my laptop, due to the fact they changed manufactures 3 months after my purchase due to all the systems before that having defective casings, and the only way to resolve the issue, was to change manufactures (part of the cause for the delay on colored lids).
I also received new bumpers for my LCD, instead of 4, I got 6 this time. The 2 screws beside the microphone, usually have silver plastic covers on the screw heads. This resulted when the lid was closed the screen could be pushed down, scratching the casing and bending the screen which could potentially crack the screen. And it also heavily contributed to the play the lid had when closed.
In addition to those components I also received an new LCD panel, which would make my 3rd one. The brand was unknown, due to no sticker on the box, or LCD itself. Although I was pleased to see they got it right this time, a Glossy WXGA with TrueLife. Not some defective WSXGA+, or matte screen, which I received previously (they we're grainy as hell too).
Inspection Of The Parts & Instillation,
A quick comparison of the new and original casings, it was very obvious, you could see the defects a mile away in the paint job, a quality of craftsmen ship.
I removed the LCD, and it's housing from the base of the unit, and grabbed the new LCD and hooked up the cable to the LCD, laid it on the carpet, and hooked it up to the base, start up the machine. The Dell logo actually looked BETTER then it did on my LG. So far, I'm pleased - but then I get slapped int he face.
The screen goes black, so I just wait, suddenly the Dell MediaDirect screen shows, which make no sense, because I removed it upon purchasing the machine (5 months ago). Then it goes black again, I waited again, then I hear the Windows login sound. The screen still is black, but after focusing a flash light on the screen, I COULD SEE THE LOGIN SCREEN faintly. Yay, the screens back-light failed to come on.. So I rip the inverter off my Original LG and put it on this new Unknown Screen.
Start it up, everything is 'normal' this time. After I login to the machine (the LCD is still laying on the carpet), I instantly could confirm this screen is flawless, and way better then my LG screen. Perfect blacks, zero light bleed, amazing color reproduction, no grain, no dead or stuck pixels - and it's even brighter and clearer.
FINALLY Dell did something right.
So I turned off the machine and installed it in the new LCD lid, and then applied the new LCD bezel.
Another thing I noticed, this new Lid was much better then my old one. The paint looks perfect, the hinges on this lid are outstanding. Their nice and stiff. And on my old Lid, I could 'spin' the hinges from where they are screwed down to the lid. On the new lid it's all rock solid.
After I got the whole screen assembly put back together, and mounted into the machines base and hooked up the cables and screwed the hinges to the base, I applied the new bumpers to the screen.
The Verdict & Results... (Drum Roll)
I'm gonna be honest here, I finally fell back in love with this computer again. It Finally feels like a quality, solid computer. No long has that, plastic feel to it.
The screen lid, no longer has any play, the casing finally is up to standards, and looks beautiful. The new screen is much better then my LG and looks gorgeous.
It's a shame that it took so much time and screwing around for Dell to finally resolve the problem properly. But I am finally pleased with my system..
Oh, and to confirm the screen is an AOU2374, and yes it's perfectly flawless.. lol.. Figure that out..
As for the other problems, CPU whine etc, I got compensated for it all..
So yea, finally a Dell success story.. or should I say finally someone pleased with Dell.. lol..

Glad that you like your computer again... Congrats!
Have you ever considered writing for Wikipedia? -
Illegal Operation Notebook Evangelist
What a mess B2 but glad it finally worked out to your satisfaction.
-
glad to here you are finally pleased with your system
-
POH, lmao! I've considered writing my own blog, never Wikipedia, Why do ya ask? Cuz I type to much every time I post? (I hate that about me, I got on and on worse then a women..)
By the way I think I got a few pictures of some of the comedic defects, if anyone wants I can try and post them. -
AUO WXGA screens are very good. My coworker's Vostro 1500 has it and it's a VERY good screen.
Asfar as the backlight issue you had when laying it on the carpet...it was most likely a loose connection. If your computer is running and you unplug the screen and replug it back in, the backlight won't come on. The computer must be restarted. I'm sure the other inverter was fine.
AUO LCD screens do not have any stickers that identify it like the LG and SEC screens do.... instead, the AUO is STAMPED on the front bottom left of the screen (the metal bezel around the LCD) with AUO logo.
glad u got it all fixed to your satisfaction. -

you shouldn’t reli have to change it yourself!!

Congratulations B2TheEY0!!! I do remember your previous post...it was filled with frustration and angst. I'm glad you got everything you wanted and more and are happy with your Dell....now only if Dell could get this stuff right the first time. But I'm glad they switched manufacturers for their screens. Seems like they finally realized that so many people were pissed off.
Congrats once again. -
Now, i got the crappy screen in the family because my nc6400's LG matte screen seems sooooo dull and lifeless! -
n19htmare, really? Well this is my first encounter with an AOU screen. I remember everyone complaining the AOU's sucked. Must be different models Dell carries, and I guess the image quality varies between the models?!
Regardless, this screen is almost comparable to my Eizo.. It's drop dead gorgeous. So bright and clear - ugh.. (has a nerd-gasim).
I didn't see the logo stamped anyway, must have missed it. But I can assure you the cables we're secure. I didn't mention in the post to keep things short(er) but I restarted the machine a few times, even sat the screen in the lid and put the lid on the machine properly (as if it was installed but not screwed in). Still same results. But once I swapped inverters all was good.
It was weird cuz throughout the BIOS part, the back-light worked, but once Windows jumped in, the back-light died.
TrisTan 08, I chose to change it myself. I prefer to service and maintain my machines. I like to over-see everything and do everything myself that way I can relax knowing everything is done perfectly to my standards. I'm kinda snobby and stuck up that way. Plus I enjoy getting my hands dirty with this stuff.
carldaru, Thanks- yea it is a shame though they can't get these right. Although, I guess later is better then never.
byoo511A bad LG screen! That's a new one to me.. Although it is a matte so, it won't be so pretty, I think mattes are gross. Dell sent me one the first time, so dark and dull, the colors looked like they we're about to die. And the grain, horrible...

B2TheEyo can you post some pic of your new AUO screen?
i read so much bad reviews about the screen its nice to hear some good reviews as well, i recently bought the xps m1330 with a ccfl lcd, and after an online checkup at the dell website i saw i got the AUO screen, i was so disappointed, but now after reading this post and talking to a dell representative that said that the AUO i got was improved because of many complains...im a bit relax i wont be able to see my new laptop till may (long story)... and till i get the new laptop the 21 days policy will be expired.. so im happy to hear the are some pleased costumers with the AUO screen... -
Hey daphne - while you probably did get the AUO screen as indicated when you checked the specs using the service tag on Dell's website, I would check the device manager when you get the computer to be sure (if it matters).
After my xps m1330 shipped I checked its components and it indicated my LED screen was a CMO brand. Just the other day I happened to check it in device manager and I actually got a Toshiba LED screen. So not sure how accurate that info is. -
okay, cool i'll do that.
yeah some one in the forum said the same thing that in the dell webstie it says he has the AUO screen and after he checked at the device manager he got the LG screen...so im holding my fingers for the LG... but if it still will be the AUO after reading this post i guess its not that bad like alot of ppls say...
