On 9/8/10 I went online and ordered a Dell Studio 17 Touchscreen laptop. EDD of 9/23 with following specs:

    Studio 17 (1749) CTO
    Intel Core, i5-450M
    4GB DDR3
    Backlit Keyboard
    17.3HD w/Touch and Webcam
    500GB 7200 RPM HDD

    etc...etc...

Here's my horrid history with Dell up to today:

9/22/10: I received an email from Dell stating order is delayed and new EDD was 9/30/10.

So I called and asked what's up. Then I got a hold of their Rep on Twitter and he informed me they were only waiting on a few parts and it should ship with no problem and meet the 9/30/10 EDD.

On 9/27/10 I received an email from Dell stating Sorry order delayed again with an EDD of 10/7/10 and I must call or email them within 24 hours to let them know to continue or cancel the order.

At 7am my time a recorded service called stating please contact Dell ASAP to accept delay and either confirm or cancel this order.

at 8am I received a call from an acutal rep asking if I wanted to continue the order with the delay. I stated YES please continue the order.

At 11am same day another automated call.

1pm same day Dell rep on twitter told me order was on schedule and he would check again the next day to verify his request for a $100 discount on the total due to the delays.

    NEXT MORNING:
Dell rep on twitter tells me there's a problem. They have to cancel my order because Dell no longer offers the Studio 17 Touch anymore and their manufacturer for the screen no longer will make them and could they have a sales rep call me to build and place an order for a different system.

Well as you may have guessed I was fuming. I told them to Kick rocks, I would order the HP version of the touch screen at a lesser price than theirs.

Welll here it is now 1.5 hours later and I have the below system on order with a delivery date on or before 10/19.

    Studio 17
    Intel Core i5-520M
    4GB, DDR3
    17.3" HD Face Recognition/Webcam
    640GB HDD
    2 year warranty
    Black Evo Backpack
    Travel/Car Charger

All for less than the price of my original order and with an additional $100 off for my troubles.

So maybe I just got ahold of a good sales rep who actually lives in and is from the US. LOL

Meh, I would have walked. The two main selling points for me were a discreet GPU and the touch screen, both of which I got back in early June. Dell would have lost my sales from that point forward if they had done that my order, for all future purchases.

Same thing happened with me. They said that they could not get the 17" HD monitor in 1080p anymore, only 900p. Also they can't get the back-lit keyboard.

I too am really upset about this. Went through the same thing that you did with reps and spent hours on the phone with them.

Now I am getting a 16" Studio XPS laptop for the same price as the Studio 17. They upgraded my processor from a i3 to the i5, also getting the Radeon graphics card. They upgraded my warranty, wireless card. Now I AM getting the HD 1080p monitor and the back lit keyboard which I wanted.

So I am still very upset about not getting what I originally wanted. Especially the 17" monitor. But what can I do? They said that I could not even wait for the one that I originally ordered because it would be canceled no matter what.

Oh yeah...is your monitor going to be full HD 1080p? What about the keyboard. Did you want the back lit one or are you getting it?

    Thanks
