Well I thought I would start to detail my travails with dell for the benefit of others, and a hope of moral support.
After 5 days of Xps ownership I had a technician out to replace the screen in the hope of ridding some of the sparkles, I now have the Samsung and I still have sparkles. During the proccess of repair, the technician damaged the bezel gouging the metal in four locations. the gouge by the latch is sharp enough to cut yourself on, the others range in size between 1/8 to 1/4 inch of bare metal. After spending more than two hours of heated conversation with Dell on the phone I had got nowhere. Dell wished to send another technician to fix the problem. The following day I spoke to customer care and sought a replacement. It was accepted that one would be issued to me and I was given a case number. Two things bother me at this point, I am unable to tell if a replacement laptop has been ordered for me ( I trust this company less than a politician ). I do not know if my 21 days would restart upon reciept of the new laptop. And I was told by customer care that I would be unable to return the laptop for refund because it was damaged. The last one has been bothering me for about a day now.

Hello,
Just wondering. Did you have complete care? -
No, not sure what it is?
-
Ok now I just looked it up on the Dell web site. It looks like accidental damage insurance. To cover damage caused by the user or acts of god etc. LET ME PERFECTLY CLEAR here the DELL technician damaged the XPS laptop. If I called my property insuarance that paid for this laptop and told them that the DELL technician physically damaged the laptop they would not cover any damage. The damage to the xps laptop is clear and consistent with physical abuse during the dissasembly of the screen assy.

In terms of having a "Dell hell" experience, welcome to the club. I feal for you as I had a pretty bad experience with the Dell prefered acount section. However, they are replacing your unit which is much more than they offered me. Next time you have a technician come out, take pictures of your notebook before and after the technician comes. Even if you don't have a digital camera, go out a buy a disposable one.
Hope the new notebook works out. Keep in mind that ANY notebook monitor you get will have the "sparkle" issue as the LCD's that Dell use have a high resolution. I don't see the sparkle affect and that is probably because I don't fully under stand it. I don't want to see the sparkle affect as I would want to replace my XPS Gen. 2's LCD if I saw the sparkles. Dell is not a very good company. As any big company, their faults are heard more than their gains. The XPS Gen. 2 is a extremely good system that is currently outperforming most desktops and all notebooks (unless you can find one with a 3.8Ghz Pentium 4, 4GB RAM, and the Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra) yet costs much less than other Clevo solutions. My cousin is ticked for not getting a XPS Gen. 2 as she recently purchased a Alienware for $3400 yet my $2080 XPS Gen. 2 can outperform her notebook when it comes to gaming.
A little off topic, but oh well. Hope everything gets straightened out. -
was your first panel a samsung?? did you bother to check the make and model number with your service tag??? LG screens have a dirty metallic looking anti reflective coating, the samsungs have a much more transparent, patterened sheen in the anti reflective coating, having used both panels I like the samsung better. Mine looks great, no sparkly problem. -
The first screen in my Dell was the LG, observing it during dissasembly and seeing the label was the clearest inidication Power strip also indicated. The Lg had about the same sparkle a bit of light leak fairly even illumination. The Samsung Label again on the panel has really bad illumination, Two dim spots in the bottom corners uneaven banding of light much more light leakage and the same kind of sparkles. The Samsung also has this odd diagonal stripe to the shiny screen overlay.

i think u should delete your double post
-
Yeah, why did you double post?
Sorry! There was a misunderstanding and i have changed my post. Nick -
Guys I appreciate your help, but please let the moderators do their job. Some users don't know how to delete their posts, so you telling them that they should do this or that just makes the situation worse. Next time just report it as a bad post, and do not create a post. You both have been here long enough to know that you need to respect other users. Next time I'll give bad rep.
He might have not even known it was a double post or he might have not even done it. The server could have had problems. There could have been several reasons as to why it was a double post.
Thanks,

yea..i know...i didn't mean it in a bad way at all tho!!!!..sry if it looked like that

Its okay. I was a little too harsh. At the same time, I don't want to chase off any of our newer users.
