Sigh.. Well the first thing I noticed was the wobbly battery...But it seemed like everyone was having that problem so whatever.. But when I just went to close my laptop a few mins ago, I noticed that the piece of plastic that surrounds the monitor is coming off. Right above the "DELL" symbol it is still attached, but on both sides above the hinges, the plastic has seperated from the screen, when I push it back it looks fine but it doesnt stay that way... Just wondering if anyone else has this problem......

Post a Pic.. have not seen anyone post about that problem.. A few people posted about Dells falling apart.. but they ended up being a joke. So give us a picture if you want us to believe this story... Also I notice you ordered the 1440X900 screen. How does that look? Does it have the grainy problem that many are complaining about with the wxga + screens?
-
here are pics of the problem i'm talking about.
-
Call Dell, email them the photos and get it replaced.
-
Im sorry if I sound ignorant, but according to me, that little thing doesnt count as "Falling apart". Sure, its annoying, since the laptop is probably brand new, but still. I think "Falling apart is an exaggeration

You probably got a lemon, although with Dell, you never know. The inspiron's are historically poorly constructed. These new ones were supposed to be better, but it looks like dell's cost cutting has negated any efforts. Push for a replacement, you'll get it for sure, with those issues.
EDIT: It does come under falling apart. A bad hinge(in his case, two) is as good as a dead laptop in a month. -
Ya I suppose its a slight exaggeration but you've gotta understand I'm pretty pissed.. I dropped some big cash on this (just like everyone else) and within the first week I'm getting problems like this?! And I stinkin baby this thing like crazy... sigh.. I'm on the phone with them now.. -
-
If that happens to my 1520, Im gonna blow dell to pieces trying to get a replacement

The lid is clearly not strong enough.. It seems this will be a potential problem faced by all 1420/1520/1720 owners.. Hope I am wrong...
-
ya man for real.

It may take a while, as my replacement did, but if you are persistent and keep telling whoever you are talking to that you want to speak to their Supervisor, eventually you will get to someone who will fix the problem. It took me 5 months, but I ended up with a great deal, a free computer. Once I got a list of names, I had my attorney buddy send letters to them threatening a law suit, they finally responded. Refunded my money and gave me a new computer.
-
wow pretty nice.. I dont know if I wanna go that far. I just want them to take this one back and give me a new one. I've been on the phone for about a half an hour now and they seem pretty promising... But I suppose they always do.
-
Looks like the hinges were installed backwards to me.
The larger gap is on the right side of each hinge on my 1420 while said gap is on the left side for yours.
-
Oh geez. Now that I look closer I see that... so gay..
-
Now that I look closer, the far left henge piece is bent in... the right side of it is touching the actual base of the notebook while the left side of it is pushed away from the notebook... why me..
-
I had to take my 1520 apart to do a temporary fix to the lcd screen until my replacement came , so I know the screen in and out.
Have you tried pressing that part in again and pressing all the sides of that piece all aroujnd the screen in?
that plastic piece is a seperate part from the hinge. Its screwed in and clipped into the rest of the lcd part.
I would see if you can press around that piece and click it in. If that doesnt work try screwing in the screws underneath the pad covers tighter.
My lcd on my 1520 came in dead so if you want a repalcement be prepared to wait A LONG TIME. they had no problems sending me a full blown NEW REPLACEMENT but its been delayed and wont ship to me till the 27th of july.
if ou have any more problems let me know. I have taken the 1520 screen apart already and can help you.
Also that piece is seperate from the hinge. Its a seperate frame piece that is held in by little plastic pieces and screws. -

Ya I just tried some of your suggestions and to no avail. It looks like the screen is being pushed in from the edges toward the middle, causing alot of pressure and thus the seperation of the plastic from the screen.. The part of the screen that attaches the screen to the hinges seems to be opposite of what it should be.. Just like Kage- pointed out. I'm on hold right now, seems like they are giving in and giving me a brand new system.
-
Be prepared for a long wait for the replacement system. -
Thx for the advice man.
-
Wow...thx for posting this!
After seeing your screen, i checked mine...and guess what, i've got the same problem with me screen :S
I guess i'll be calling dell later as well -
well glad I could help... I think! lol. I'll let you know what happens with my system
-
Alright they are sending me a brand new computer and said it will be here in 3 to 5 days. Honestly I'm pretty impressed with the customer service. They diddnt hassel me whatsoever.. I am really dissapointed with the mess up on the comp but hopefully it was just a simple mistake.
