Hello guys,
I have a Dell Vostro 1500, 6 months older. My monitor panel is listed AUO2374. It is a 15.4 widescreen 1280x800.
I have been following this board for a long time, but in the last couple of months I gave up research on my monitor and its stupid refresh rate. Thing is, when I watch a video with BSPlayer I can see a huge horizontal fracture moving in the top-half part of the screen. Sometimes it happens with games too, but a lot less frequently.
I was told it is just a bad screen, and that's it. There's nothing I can do about it (of course I know about the infamous procedures of having the screen replaced). What I want to know is, why in hell if I play videos using media player classic I see no fractures whatsoever? Why every player (vlc, bsplayer, WMP) does that but MPC does not? Why is it ok? Does this mean there is something I can try, software-wise, to tackle the problem?
I just can't accept that Dell ships such mediocre screens that one cannot even play a video on it. So I'd really want to do something about it. Is there any way or do I just have to consider me lucky that MPC goes around the problem with videos (but what about games?)
On a lighter note, the annoying electric noise in the headphones, I am sure you know what I'm talking about, just disappeared some time ago. Didn't make any change to the machine. It's just gone. This Dell laptop is making me crazy...

Well, to explain I'll give an example.
Using the same codecs, when playing certain movies, if I use PowerDVD it's a crystal clear, sharp image, but if I use WMP it's aliased, bad.
The only thing I can guess is, whatever problem you're having, perhaps Media Player is a bit better at playing the videos than others. It could be drivers, or just a bad screen (could be something funky about the refresh rate as you mentioned). Have you tried adjusting it in monitor properties? Mine is listed as both 59 and 60 hz, I have it just set to 60hz and it's fine.
I suggest you contact Dell about it, and see if you can get another screen if that doesn't work. -
Yes, I've tried different drivers, the refresh can be only at 60 now but I remember it being 59 or 60 with a different driver, tried both, did nothing.
I know about codecs, but my point is...codecs can change the way the screen render the file, but actually change something that depends on the refresh of the screen? I don't know, it seems weird. -
Well I was trying to make the point that, using the same codecs I got different results with two different players. Which is what is happening to you, using media player classic it's fine. Using hardware accel. or not, the players will use your video card drivers, so I thought maybe it was that.
Since you say you used different drivers, then I'm sorry I cannot suggest anything else. If you have no problems at all with MPC, then it doesn't sound like it's your screen at all.
Sorry I can't be of more help. -
That's what I would like to know for sure: if MPC works fine, is the screen bad or is it something else? because if it's something else maybe I can try to fix it in some other ways. Thank you anyway, talin
