Well, I finally pulled the credit card out and did the life changing event of entering those numbers in. Like many of you, I was torn between the smaller size and features of the i6000d and the draw of the i9300's sweet GPU. i finally decided the weight didn't bother me and the size isn't THAT much bigger, especially since i will be only transporting this thing once a day to and from a desk at school. So, after almost a year of visiting this site, my specs below:
i9300
Intel® Pentium® M 750 Processor (1.86GHz/533MHz FSB)
17 inch UltraSharp#153; Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife#153;
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
256MB NVIDA® GeForce#153; Go 6800
60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
Free Upgrade!! 24X CD-RW/DVD Combination Drive with Sonic RecordNow
FREE! Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915 Internal Wireless (802.11 a/b/g, 54Mbps
9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (80 WHr)
3 Years On-site Business Standard Plan ($130 Mail in Rebate)
Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal(2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate)
TOTAL COST: $3,063 - $1,072(35% off) - $130 Rebate = $1,861
Considering that's with a 3 year warranty with accidental damage covered, i think that's a pretty sweet deal. good luck all!

Wow, that is a good deal. Very good deal, for what you got.
-
thanks ballin. i can't wait to see how it performs. I was really hellbent on the 15.4 wide but hopefully the 9300 won't be too big to carry from desk to desk once a day.
-
Oh, one other thought, once i get this, i'll post a brief overview here and take some pictures comparing the size of this too that of the i8600. i know i wish i coulda found more of those types of pictures. i'll also benchmark it.

Sweet deal Adam, i should have waited on my 9200 but o well, i still love it. Enjoy the 9300 and after about a week you get used to the size and it just seems normal. My friend has a normal size laptop and the screen and size was just too small too me. I think i would go mad if i had a 12inch notebook [

Make sure to download 3dmark 2005 and let us know how it scores. Also when you first get it, delete all the junk they put on it get all the latest drives, tweak it, run disk scan and defrag and your good to go. Do it in that order to ensure gettng it all set.

Gotcha. Yeah, the first thing I do anytime i buy a new computer is wipe the drive clean and do a reinstall of windows. i hate not knowing what's on my system. i hope your right about the size issue. now, to just find a bag that isn't too heavy or big...
-
My system is about 8 pounds. The big is an issue though, because you need one big enough for it. They don't look bad just a little more bulky. Anyway, i used to have a19 inch and 17inch CRT monitors so the screen was not too big for me when i first got it. The weight also does not bother me at all, i use it on my lap all the time and it doesnt feel heavy or get very warm while using battery power. In fact it rarely get warm, even will playing UT2k4 or another graphic intense game.

well, that's good news about the weight and thermal concerns. do you own a bag? if so, which one and do you like it? thanks
-
I havent gotten a bag yet but i have seen a few. They are larger backpacks, more like a hiking backpack. Haven't got it due to other bills, but i was looking at the oversized Targus bag. I don't want to pay 100 dollars for a backpack, the Targus one is around 50 bucks and its cheaper online. Next month when i get my bills paid im going to pick a bag, and a laptop cooler when i play games, just to be extra sure to keep the system cool!

What is your secret? -
Hmmm im looking all over for this coupon....
Could I bother you for the link or the coupon number?
Thanks for the trouble -
Johnny,
There's a 35% coupon for small business that runs through 3/9. I got the same system as Adam except I got the 2.0 GHz processor and XP Pro; 3252 - 1138 -130 =$1984 + tax. Nice deal. -
The following 35% off coupon only works in the small biz section of dell. the 130 dollar rebate was from the service plan i got. coupon code: HFDT8WGQKLTD4V

Yes, I was really working toward the 15.4 i6000, seemed like the perfect match until I could not get it with a good graphics card.
I was very dissappointed. I almost ordered an HP until the i9300 came out. I had previously discounted all 17 in. screens as being too big, but the 9300 seemed right and I bought it.
I don't think the wieght will be an issue as my wifes older latitude is not light and is only 14.1 in. The size I hope will not be that much bigger than the 15.4.
Will be interested in the pics comparing if you get yours soon. -
yeah, mine isn't scheduled for shipment until 3/18 so i wouldn't wait on my pics. and even thouse dates can change dramatically.
My system, 9 months in the making, finally!
