How many of you here have returned their Dell due to damage, lcd etc?

I'm asking because I will be getting my third e1505 this week. The first one was due to the infamous "shimmer". The one I just received last week has some scratches on the LCD and has some major light leakage on the bottom of the screen.

Everything else is good, it's just this darn LCD that keeps giving issues.

Ah well....hopefully the third one is the lucky one. :)

I've had my E1505 for about two months with no troubles. Makes me nervous to hear stories like yours, but thankfully, i don't see many complaints on the E1505. Right out of the box, I've never had a problem with anything including wireless - instantly connected. I do notice on startup that my screen has little walnut-sized area of light leakage in upper left area. But i only notice it on startup - once booted, i never notice it. But I do plan to watch it closely - i purchased the 2-year Complete Care Warranty for this reason. Well - good luck. Let us know if the third time's a charm. I worry about ever having to return this E1505 because from what i can gather, most of the time, dell replaces with refurbished, NOT new, units. Don't like that. Anyway - may the force be with you.

dell inspiron line is trouble if you're picky
    i've have 2 bad ones.
a light leak, and on the one i just ended up keeping, the bottom isn't filed down.
the rubber grommets don't have contact with the table, as there are plastic bits that stick out further, resulting in my laptop sliding.
sucks, but you can't beat the price

I've had no problems with my e1505. I've had it 4 weeks now and am extremely happy with it. I've also been happy with Dell support. I contacted them to get the various restore CDs in case I reformat. Hope your new one is good for you!

Yeah, well I guess I'll have to pick the best one of the two and see if it's better. I actually should've just got the LCD replacment since the build quality on this laptop is much better.

Also, I noticed it has "In Production" underneath my order status so I am assuming I am getting a "new" e1505. I even spoke with one of the reps and he assured me that it was brand new, not refurbished.

Ugh.. I wish I didnt see this post.. just ordered a e1505 couple days ago, waiting for it to come in.. praying no issues as I didnt buy the accident coverage.. but then.. wouldnt LCD issues like this be covered under the nromal 3 yr warrenty? Just long as ita s hardware issue not releated to something I did?

Still debating if I should get the accident insurance.. but I have to this day never broken a laptop.. Wonder if it can be added later tho.

merky work - Thanks for the advice, I think I will pick and choose between the two and 'build' my own Dell.

Mysticales - You don't need the extra warranty if you do get a defected LCD. It should be under warranty and they (Dell) shouldn't give you any problems, especially during the first 21 days.
