So I wanted the best router I could find for my new XPS m1530 with the Intel N wireless so I bought the D-Link DGL-4500. I am used to the Linksys set up as I have only used thier routers in the past, and after getting pissed at the hassle of the D-Link setup and constant dropping of signal I am thinking about taking the 4500 back and getting the Linksys WRT310N. I really dont know the difference between the 5ghz and 2.4 ghz but I was hoping someone could offer any experience with the linksys I want. I bought the 4500 because it offered 802.11a as well as N, but it wont let me use g or b at the same time as the A. I game on my 360 wirelessly and the "a" setup is better then the "g", but since I cant use the a+g+n at the same time with the 4500 i think i wasted money. any advice?

the main advantage of a dual band router (2.4 & 5) is that they broadcast at the same time and if your card is Intel 49..a/g/n it is dual band capable which should allow greater network speeds, esp for gaming. I don't think WRT310N is dual band, so you'll be limited to 130mbps w. the intel card.
The 4500 should have worked for you............
I strongly suggest you check out the reviews on each router at

It will give you detailed information/performance of the routers and give you unbiased answers to most of your questions.

Amazon had ( and may still have) the WRT600N for $154 with super saver free shipping. I got 270 Mbps out of the box with the intel 4965AGN card. Keep in mind that after about 20-30 ft your dropping to low 100's if not 54Mbps.

I tried changing the channel to auto and setting it for A+N, I had it set for N only prior, so far it seems stable. The dual band part for this router is kinda crappy, you cant dual broadcast, which means the dual part is useless if you dont want to have to change settings everytime i want to use my Wii or PS3, since all my systems are connected wirelessly and the 360 is the only one that pics up "A", or am I wrong? -
Here's a link to the netgear WNDR3300 page. -
Sorry to have given you bad information........ I thought it transmitted in dual mode also
The Netgear WNDR3300 posted above looks like a very good buy. It does indeed transmit in dual mode simultaneously. You might read on the Netgear Forums b4 buying.
