Can anyone tell me the difference between these two intel pentium processors besides the fact that the Z520 runs cooler?
Is the Z520 a faster processor than the N270?
I'm looking at a Dell mini, the 10V has the N270 with 1.66 GHz - $299.00
and the 10 has the Z520 with 1.30 GHz - $349.00
I am leaning towards the mini 10, but did not understand why the GHz is less when the computer costs more.
Any help would be appreciated.

There are other differences between the mini 10 and the mini 10v besides processor.....
Go back to the Dell site and have a look at the tech specs, and pay close attention to where it highlights just the 10 and where it highlights just the 10v.
Here's a quick link to the page: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-inspiron-10?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&ref=lthp -
I have researched the other differences, just wanted an answer to this specific question of the difference between a N270 and a Z520, no one seems to be able to tell which is better, the difference, etc. Any other ideas?

As far as I can determine the Z series have more functionality available to them and also are upgradable. The N270 is an embedded processor, meaning to replace it you need to replace a whole lot more than just the processor. Like everything pretty much.
But I could be wrong. That's after about 10 minutes of research.

OK, 10 more minutes and I've determined that the Z series is single chip design, incorporating HD graphics capability into the processor. This is why it is more expensive.
I think the aim being that the Z series processor can actually go into machines smaller than the 10" mini, and be ultra power efficient by handling more on the same chip. So when you see power consumption figures it is slightly misleading, as in fact the chip is doing more work for that power consumption figure than your N series Atom processor. -
You are the best, thank you. A precise answer!!!!

Well it's as far as I could figure; perhaps someone else could verify that. My second post that is.
N270 vs Z520
