Hi there weird question here, but I was wondering where the CPU and GPU are in the N5010 because I had enough with crap coolers and so bought a case fan, wired it up to a mobile phone charger and have been trying to put it in different positions under the laptop to cool the GPU and it seems to knock off a good 5 degrees but the fan is pretty damn powerful and should be knocking off more degrees.

I'm sure I'm just not putting it in the right position. If anyone knows where the GPU is it would be greatly appreciated.

    kind regards
    alex

UPDATE: Thought I'd post an update, I accidentally put the fan underneath the laptop upside down - sucking the air out the laptop - and now it removes 8-10 degrees. Are there any side effects to this or can I keep on doing this. I would think it would strain the lappy fan if two fans are pulling air in opposing directions with one fan being stronger than the other.

    any input greatly appreciated.

Without cooling a great deal, yes they suck.

but thanks for the manual info very helpful. I've been testing with the fan right under the three middle vents of the laptop and the heat loss is phenomenal and the fans not even at full speed!, oh sorry I forgot to put my specs up:

    dell n5010
    i5-460m 2.53 - 2.8ghz
    ATI 5650m
    4gb DDR3

stock clocks on bulletstorm with medium/high settings:
without upside down fan: CPU-61/64, GPU-68
with upside down fan: CPU-57/53, GPU-60

    OC'd to 600/1050 from 450/800
without upside down fan: CPU-70/67, GPU-75
with upside down fan: CPU-57/54, GPU-62

I don't know if this is new or what but if you get a case fan find the vent with the heat sink underneath your laptop, find a way to have the fan right up against the vent blowing down the way - sucking the heat out of the heat sink (instead of blowing air in) - it seems to work much better.

The way I have mine is propped up on two books each side, making sure not to cover vents with the two lower books pushed in to the centre a little further to make a little platform for the fan so that it has space underneath.

In total the fan and plug charger cost £15 for a 13C reduction in heat! I didn't actually have heat problems with the N5010, but I have heard they have heat issues and I don't like it when it goes over 70C.
