    I flashed my bios ..

1 - Fan kept running at 100% and it was very noisy !
    2 - The name of the GPU didn't change to 540M !
3 - The only thing that happened is that the default clocks became 672/900/1344 which are the default in 540M ..

If you fix that I will be grateful :) !

No need to change name of GT-525M to GT-540M. They both share the same hardware. I changed the clocks of the GT-525M to GT-540M with some manual hex editing. So we dont need to use overclocking software and Nvidia Optimus can work like it's supposed to.

I also made a 525m to 550m bios mod. However, don't forget to watch those temperatures. I am working on a undervolting bios for each mod

    Stay tuned!

    Hi,
Thank You for your efforts, it's appreciated.
Haven't tested your bios out yet, but on my next 3 days off I intend to :)
Will install all the bench tools and test out before flashing your mod then I'll flash your mod and bench again and see how it goes.

Post the results when I'm done if you like.
    Cheers

If anyone has the same issue on one of the undervolted BIOS mods please notify me.

I am still trying to find out if I am having the same issue on the stock BIOS. It may me my laptop having problems.

I think the sound bug is caused by a bad reparation. If the Dell Technician damaged my motherboard physically I will need a replacement again.

My modded BIOS is ok. I even tried a downgraded A08 but I still had the problem. So don't worry about the sound

I am currently running 0.83v stock clocks.

You will have to edit some driver inf file to rename it.

The driver reads the device ID from the VBIOS and then checks from its driver files which graphics card name it is equal to. Change that and you have your 550M

But it is not worth the trouble... :)

I COULD try changing the device id in the VBIOS to the 550M but YOU will have to test if that works will you? I can't promise you will come out of there well. But I will need some testers.

I edited the inf files in the driver and I got GT 550M ..
It's not worth messing with the VBIOS , and I think the adapter name is on chip not via the VBIOS .

I am not. The GT-525M is uber-stable at 0.83v. You can do pretty much anything at that voltage.

I could try making a 0.82v VBIOS mod for saving extra temperature if you want or maybe even lower.

Thanks for your work. It was the first time I flashed my bios and everything went well. But I have an unusual request. Is it possible to mod a bios to make possible to completely disable nvidia optimus. The reason why is that I'm struggling for quite some time with my hackintosh trying to find a way to fix some freezes due to optimus technology. It would be great if it was possible.

Sadly Optimus can't be disabled because the IGP is connected to Intel Graphics ,
@Geos1 Volt doesn't affect performance , volt affect the temperature .

I opened afuwingui x64. Loaded the [email protected] dos file and flashed. My fan was stuck at full rpm when it finished. Then i restarted and windows froze at the loading screen. Pressed continiously the power button and nothing happened. So i unpluged it. I manually installed the a09 bios version via dos. Did i do something wrong? Can the instructions be posted? Also, where is the [email protected] bios file?

You need to press fn + x at boot when restarting as N5110.X said. It did the same to me and I also had to unplug both cable and battery for my lappy to shut off.

0.83v is kinda unstable sometimes the driver crashes , anyway I will reset everything and overclock using MSI Afterburner , much safer and easier and I can apply it with the startup of the system.

    Good luck guys :)

Yeah, today with 540m clocks and 0.83 voltage my game almost crashed GPU usage went to 0% for a few seconds but then the game recovered. Im going to install the 0.85 version.

I made a 0.86v version of the 525M to 550M mod. Lower voltages were not stable.

Please let me know if 0.85v is stable for 540M

Are the stock clocks stable at 0.83v? Having driver crashes?

Info : The GF108 version of GT 555M is GDDR5 so we can't call it 555M mod ,you can call it 753...MHz

Is there any possibility for changing the NAME of the GPU , this will be really cool :)

EDIT : I searched the drivers and I think this might help you..

    NVIDIA_DEV.0DF6.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.0DF4.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M"

    I ran more tests:

    753/1506/900/0.86v 75C
    600/1200/900/0.95v 69C = stock
    600/1200/900/0.83v 63C
    672/1344/900/0.83v 65C

note that these temperatures depend on CPU usage as well. It is almost impossible to determine precise results.

Is the 6C heat increase worth it?

Trying to find that out. Don't know if it is possible. I tried changing device ID and it didn't work. I might look into it deeper later.

It seems the GT-525M to GT-540M is the best overclock. That one is achievable at 0.85v. If you want higher clocks you will need to increase voltage to 0.86v which works up to 753/1506/900. At least those are the highest clocks I tested

with 540M at 0.85v we even get slightly lower temps.

These are my current mods I have ready:

stock 0.83v <-- Stable??? Driver crashes? Untested.
    stock 0.85v Stable
    540M 0.85v Stable
    550M 0.86v Stable
    555M 0.86v Stable

If you find VGA BIOS of a GT-525M later than 21/04/2011 please post. So we can even update our own VGA BIOS to a newer version. However I tried several BIOSes of popular notebooks. And it seems we are the most lucky people on the planet.

Great work , can you kindly add the 753/1506/900 one to download list .

Don't bother yourself about changing the name , not worth the risk and it can be easily done through driver hacking ( like I did ).

Another request , could try raising the memory clock ?! ( I want the maximum performance because I hate changing the BIOS every now and then ), maybe 753/1506/960 .

Last question Is there any risk ( because I reset everything and overclocked via Afterburner ) and I'm really impressed about your mods.

    Thanks :)

753/1506/900 runs hotter than stock clocks. So if there is a risk there it's temperature.

Lower voltage means better life span.
    Overclocking means dangerous.

The highest GF108 chip has 753/1506/900. This means our GT-525M can handle those clocks in theory. But our laptop, the N5110, is not made to battle the high TDP generated by a 555M or 550M.

I compared the BIOS of GT-525M and GT-540M. They are actually very much the same. But the GT-550M seems to be very different.

So my GT-540M mod is very very safe. The GT550M and GT555M are all your risks.

I am rereleasing now for you :)

I won't overclock memory since it seems to have no effect on performance. And there is no official higher clock of the DDR3 memory. This is why I skip it :)

    I got it , anyway I think I will flash to 753/1506/900.

Temperature is not an issue for me , I have 3-Fan cooling pad , what other risks ? ( What does " the N5110, is not made to battle the high TDP generated by a 555M or 550M " mean ? )

Is there anything upcoming because I hate flashing , So I want to flash to 753/1506/900 and stay there .

Thank you very much for your great effort :)
