My Grandpa had an N5110 that he had a hard time with. He got tired of it and gave it to us without any of the software, basically just wanted it out of his house. My brother said he would take it so I did some work on it to get it in good shape and then gave it to him. What I did:
1. Used KillDisk to wipe the hard drive clean
2. Downloaded a Windows 7 .iso from Digital River.
3. Created a Windows 7 DVD from the .iso
4. Installed Windows 7. When it asked to put the product key in, I put the key that's on the sticker on the bottom of the machine in. It accepted that key and I continued on, configuring and installing things like I always do.
The computer seemed to work quite nicely. I then gave it to my brother. He probably had it less than 2 weeks before this started happening:

Do the Microsoft Windows 7 downloads that are hosted by Digital River not work for Dell product keys?
The only other thing I can think of is that when Grandpa was still struggling with it he had someone work on it for him. I don't know if they could have perhaps replaced some hardware that made the key on the back of the computer not work anymore or what?
Edit: Looks like I accidentally attached one of those images as a thumbnail as well. Not really sure how to remove that...
