A couple months after buying my Dell Outlet store 17R (N7110), the HDMI audio stopped working. I could still listen via headphone jack, so rather than box it up and ship back to Dell.. I just ignored the problem and kept using the headphone jack.

Fast forward a year, and my headphone jack is getting worn out. Only plays on one side, and I have to hold the jack to make any sound at all. I know the jack itself is soldered to the MB, so that's not an easy replacement.

But what about the audio chipset, is it too attached to the motherboard? Any hopes I could replace that as a component (without swapping the entire MB)?

Pretty sure both the jacks and the chipset are soldered to the motherboard. The only things on a daughterboard are the couple of the jacks on the back right.
