Looks like a photoshop'd current gen one that got turned black. But if it is really it, it looks pretty nice. Black doesn't look as cheap as silver. Nice gloss. Anyway, if Celeron and Pentium Dual Cores are the only choices, I guess Dell is starting to try to make its product lines more separate.

Well yes it basically is a black version of the current one.. probably will have print designs on the extra side.. it is a lower end model compared to the studio.. probably you will find some centrino 2 platforms.. but dont expect the higher end.

I like the way it looks ... although I dont like how every laptop is black. Silver laptops are cool too!

Only integrated graphics though ... that doesn't look too fun

Looks like the current one, but they actually took OUT the HDMI port. Either that or moved it. But the going by how crappy the Inspiron 13 is, I wouldn't be surprised if they removed it altogether.

For the last time, could you please upload this magic Tier two roadmap? Or are you still photoshopping it?

Oh,and it won't have the X4500. That's a Centrino 2 IGP. Most likely X3100 or even the one before if its a celeron.

Looks cheap and flimsy. And fat.

Edit: Apparently, from this comparison (assuming left to be the new 1545 and right to be the current 1525) it's also a downgrade.

It has an .6lb weight reduction over the 1525 which it replaces. Also features a lot of T series Core 2 Duo's I've never heard of. And has a 16x9 LED screen option, 1 less usb port, blue-ray or dvd burner only, less options in a lot of places which means upgrade prices could be cheaper.

Looks like upgrade to me (for the most part). But not in terms of looks.

    Exactly why it says "details"...

So this is Dells response to the HP DV5 ROFL.... but seriously anyone else starting to laugh at Dell? no updates and then this plastic toy? I have to agree the weightloss is nice but it is still a large downgrade

i wouldnt consider this in line with the dv5.. i would say the studio is more there.. inspiron is more in line with presarios etc.. yes dell is making the inspiron line more of a entry model now.. since the introduction of the studio line.. so as i mentioned before dont expect performance here.

Why do you think this their response to the DV5? The Inspiron is the entry level laptop. Even so, I'd take this over HP's garbage.

Hell is the point of this Dell?

    15.4-15.6 screen?

Why not just update 1525 with centrino2 and be done with it?

Don't tell me ur canceling and downgrading 1525 to give us this!!!!

No, 1440x900 is not a 16:9 resolution. It will be comparable such at 1366x768. The specs for the resolution aren't out yet.

Why does every part have to be super glossy? Anything you are touching with your hands or fingers shouldn't be gloss. It will only look horrible after a short time.

This would have been a fair comment last year...

When Dell upgraded the Dell Inspiron 1520 with the 1525 I was sent into a tailspin as Dell was repositioning the Inspiron line that I was purchasing since 1998 when it was their only consumer line notebook. I thought they were telling us all we had to buy the XPS line for anything in the mid-to light high end range.

They solved that confusion for me shortly after with the launch of the Studio line. That basically made Dell's offerings a lot more concrete for users like us.

Dell is basically setup like this now (on the consumer end).. Imagine them like Gap, Inc's clearly defined retail lines*...

    Low End - Inspiron
    Mid Range - Studio
High End - XPS & Alienware Laptops

I expect the XPS with be severely crippled soon or eliminated altogether to cut out the cross competition with the Alienware lines they also have...

Gap, Inc. is structured this way in their offers...

    Low End - Old Navy
    Mid Range - Gap
    High End - Banana Republic

I think this new note book is a peice of crap. It only have 3 USB, 7 in 1 card reader, 3 USB ports, VGA out, dual head phone jacks, and micriphone and thats about it.

The 1525 on the other hand has S-Video, HDMI, VGA, 4 USB, 8 in 1 card reader, Dual head phone jacks, micriphone port, and a fire wire port.

Edit: oh and it costs more or just about as much, the only perk i can say about the new 15 is that is has 64 bit option.

Edit2: it also does not have a 56k port, not that it matters to me because i don't have dail up, but i have been to a place that has it.

Afraid to say that it does have a port for ethernet cables.

The number of ports are limited, yes; but in all honesty how many of you actually use all of your ports? This is aimed at the price aware; it's not likely they'll be connecting it up to their HD televisions etc.......

Oh and with regards to the specification; it is a pet hate of mine that people criticise specs on Dell machines when in fact there is no standard spec. In fact you have the following available:

    Processors:Celeron through Core 2 Duo - up to 2.53GHz 1066MHz FSB
    RAM: configurable from 1Gb - 8Gb (DDR2 800MHz)
Chipset: Cantiga GM45 / PM45 (depending upon the next point)
    Graphics: Onboard GMA X400HD / Ati Radeon Mobility HD 4330 (256MB GDDR3)
Optional modules: Bluetooth mini card, Web Cam, Wifi upgrades

Admittedly, it's not as customisable or as powerful as say an XPS system; but please remember this product line is not aimed at that market. We'd all love to own a Ferrari or a Porsche, but we settle for a Ford. We don't refer to our Ford as crap. Sure, it's not as fast or as good looking as the Super cars, but it does the job it sets out to do & importantly within a budget we can work with.

I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything daft like that; but in terms of advising someone that the notebook is "crap because it only has 3 ports" or some such is in my opinion not valid. It may not be suitable for you because of this restriction, but it might fit the thread originator.

Now, if you were stating something about the machine in a technical capacity that makes it bad, eg over-heating etc, then that I would think is valuable input.

    Regards

Don't get me started, I ordered mine with the best discount code I could find - which was only 5%. The very next day I got an offer email providing 10% off, and then the model I bought also had an extra £40 off.

I tried it on with Dell; but technically I knew they had me. I couldn't cancel the order; as under the distance selling regulations in the UK I have no right to cancel an order for an item that is customised. The best I could do is recieve the item, send it back and buy it again. Then I have to pay a restocking fee worth more than the discount I'd get.

    Still, darned annoying!
