Dell blunder shrinks netbook storage 11:41AM, Monday 20th October 2008
Dell has corrected a blunder that effectively robbed buyers of its netbooks of three quarters of their stated storage.
The company ships the Mini 9 with either 8GB or 16GB of solid-state storage, but it appears the company has installed some early Ubuntu models with a 4GB disc image. That means up to 12GB of precious disk space is being laid to waste in an unused partition.
The error has caused confusion amongst some early buyers, with some believing Dell has shipped a smaller hard disk than stated. A quick check in the BIOS reveals that the 16GB drive is actually there.
The Dell website reveals the company has spotted and corrected the problem, and suggests affected users run the recovery DVD to correct the problem.
Experienced Linux hands may prefer to resize their existing partition using freeware applications.

Yeah, I saw this just now... but with Linux, I think once dell clears up that the space is 'actually' there, users can pretty easily resize the existing partition.. considering how easy it is to do with Linux anyways.
Thanks though, for the article here. -
