re: wireless.
since i've had my notebook i've been using the IntelPro software. but recently i figured with the memory leak and just the bloat of the software, i ditched it and have been running Windows Wireless Zero.
in both cases, no crash since day one.

Hi again, been trying to figure out how I can 1) reinstall the Nvidia drivers or 2) turn off the wireless card drivers if I can't bootup in Safe Mode.....I could I suppose turn off the wireless card in the BIOS and then bootup, but it hasn't been causing me any problems that I know of, so I'm not too sure of whether it's gonna help any....would do any of you suggest I do ? Given my circumstances....
Can I uninstall any of the drivers when I attach the SATA drive from the laptop to the new desktop ? As far as I know, I'm using all the various components' drivers, from the various company's site and not Dell's, I do this with every pc or computer that I install stuff on and have never used the computer's site to update drivers and software, as most of the time they're not the newest and latest.....I did that with my parents' Dell Latitiude D600 laptop, an old Dell desktop that they're still using as an office computer, my brother's Mesh desktop, my sister's Acer laptop and my old girlfriend's Patriot desktop....this one's the only one that's stumped me, and, ofcourse, this is the first computer I've ever owned myself.....typical init !
The only error/problem I did find when I connected the SATA drive to the desktop is that AVG found a virus on one of the files installed on there, which was quickly removed....but that wouldn't stop a computer from booting up would it ? It wasn't a system file....When I try and bootup in Safe Mode it just hangs at one of the system dlls and just hangs....nothing happens....anything I can do without having to install everything again ?
One other thing, can I Repair Reinstall a Windows XP Pro system with a Windows XP Home cd ? Got given a genuine copy of XP Home with the new desktop and was wondering....
Thanks in advance, will try and get on here abit more often, have been trying to plan a new visa run and a trip upto Bangkok, so been kinda busy....

Please don't say this issue has been resolved has it ? Though the replacements haven't arrived yet I would like to know what to do when they come, it shouldn't be long now, it's been 2 weeks from the UK so far....to Thailand, pretty usual.
But anyway, yeah, would really like to know what to do with this problem, never had a problem like this before
Thanks,
Ade -
IBM/Lenovo has fixed this problem for the T60p. Here's the updated driver for the Intel PRO wireless adapter:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-62875
In the Summary of Changes it says:
(Intel 3945ABG/3945BG only) NMI parity error with the blue screen may occur and then the computer hangs. -
Cool Excellent find!
-
Well, After running all sorts of tests, I swapped the memory cards and their slots and it seems I had a bad slot. Dell replace my motherboard and things seem to be ok for now. Just wanted to follow up. I am surprised the memtest from memtest.org didn't pick up on the bad memory slot after 14 hours of tests. I will chime in again let you all know if things keep on keeping on.

Hi Valhalla, can't remember where I recognise that name from...., I'm dreading to find out if I do need a new motherboard, as I'm currently living in Phuket, Thailand, a small package with 2 memory modules, a dvd writer drive and some cds still hasn't arrived yet, and it's been 2+ weeks already....but also, if it does need changing doesn't it need to be re-registered with your OS and valid key again ?
Anyway, can't think about that I just want it to be up and running again, I feel ripped off with this Dell model....new dvd writer, new modules, a blue screen error message that I can't seem to get away from and the thought of having to install everything again from afresh, I've barely even used the thing !
Thanks TheMaxDaddy, that's great news to hear that that particular wireless card, the same one installed on my particular model laptop, is reported to cause blue screen errors, that's exactly what I've been waiting to hear, cheers mateBut, having read the docs on the Intel site, the main source of the problem, there has been no reports of any blue screens ( NMI or whatever...)
, also, having read further into the docs it apparently states that some laptop companies have configured the software to their liking and that it may not work without any adjustments, hardware or software related...and so they tell you that you have to consult your laptop manufacturer.....bloody fantastic eh?! I'm trying to avoid installing old software that's dated from the Dell site and when I do find some updated software the actual hardware company tells me that I have to install the laptop manufacturers software, because of the changes that it's made...which in most cases has created this blue screen error for everybody replying in this thread, most useful !
Anyway, thanks for the info again, I'll report it in an email to the Dell representative that's dealing with this problem with me and see what they suggest. Many thanks, atleast we're getting closer to solving this problem

Just a heads up, Dell have update their BIOS for the 6400/1505. Dunno about other models. Says it's urgent. Might give that a try.
-
Have sent an email to the Dell rep about the issue just now, but as far as updates go, I've been over to the site and no recent updates to the BIOS or the Intel Pro Wireless card....the last for the card was 01/12/2006. The BIOS, I think there was an update in January, or February of this year....but am abit abbrehensive of what it's going to do, it's only going to include some extra features to the BIOS and further the detection of hardware, from my understanding, but maybe I'm wrong....
We'll see what they come back with...fingers crossed
BTW, thanks for your input pj, much obliged
Ade -
It isn't only Dell's problem. I've got the same thing happening in my Acer Aspire 3610 every two days. It usually happens at night when I leave some music and a couple of simple programs on. I wake up and it's blue-dead with all the "System has halted" thing on.
-
Dear fix-my-laptop I have had this problem since december and now i have to replace my mobo now my caps lock and scroll lock buttons keep on blinking and screen is blank whenever i turn on my pc. I believe this is the videocard going wrong here. Well just hope good luck for me and me to you also!
-
happen to me too while playing max payne with kungfu mod ... weird with 7900 gs....
-
-
I just got that error a few minutes ago while surfing. First one since I got this laptop towards the end of January.
-
i had the memory parity error every 4-5 hours on my dell inspiron 9400, with a geforce 7900 gs graphics card. i tested the ram, tried disabling blue tooth, wifi etc. with no success at all.
the solution was finally quite simple: i uninstalled the geforce 7900 gs drivers provided by dell and replaced them with the 94.20 mobileforce drivers from the tweaksrus.com website:
http://www.tweaksrus.com/index.php?...gid=163&orderby=dmdate_published&ascdesc=DESC
ALL geforce users should give it a try, i've never again experienced any parity errors or similar instabilities! -
Any updates from Dell Rep about this issue? Y dont' Dell rep in this forum read this thread? They answered the thread of a guy who overclock the M1710 but not us.
We should write a review of this issue and put it everywhere on the tech blog page to catch more attention.
PS a friend of mine use M1210 MCE with intel video card + original windows of Dell, and got a BSOD, but that happened when my brother use it so he didn't remember what the message say, but it's not NMI memory.... thing. Werid Dell's windows causes system crash also. -
I don't know if this helps but I have gotten the Parity check error 2 times since I received the notebook and they were 3.5 months apart. I reinstalled XP MCE and did not put on any bloatware including Dell Quickset. In fact the only thing I did install was the Creative software and all of my personal applications (besides the required drivers). My video drivers were from the Dell site. The recommended ones. I reconfigured the drive and removed all of the partitions and created my own. I do not use the Media Direct stuff and have not recreated any of the Dell factory installed partitions. The last time I got the error was about a week ago. I had Second life up and about 10 other windows up including IE and other apps. I closed all the apps. Everything was normal. I was off to make dinner then I happend to notice the Blue Screen with the error. Since then I upgraded the bios from A04 to A08. Not because of the error but because it was deemed critical by Dell. After the bios update i noticed more hard drive activity when the notebook is idle (no apps running) and the fans are running at low speed more often.
-
Thanks all - NOW SORTED!
I had the bsod for months! very annoying changed the graphics drivers from the dell ones to the latest mobileforce.
No more memory parity errors!
Dell need to update their 7900 graphics drivers on their site!
Thanks again -
can u post the mobile force link for me pls??? and should i update to latest bios?
-
i noticed that i haven't gotten a BSOD in a good few weeks.
i remember that i updated the bios and i still have the NMI error pop up from time to time, but i think updating the new video drivers (someone posted one from laptopvideo2go) did the trick!
/knock on wood -
I purchased an Inspiron 9400 with the nVidia GeForce 7900GS in September based on the very favourable reviews that it had. Since this purchase I have had NMI BSODse rarely, however in the last 3-4 weeks it has become rediculously frequent (around one a day on average). Now I have done following:
1. Run Dell's Diagnostics (All Fine no problems)
2. Run MemTest86 (All Fine no problems)
3. Run on a single memory module in each of the memory slots (Crashed on each module in each slot)
4. Reseat the memory when doing testing (Crashed regardless)
5. I disabled wireless in the BIOS (Crashed Regardless)
6. Reinstall the OS - (Crashing regardless)
7. Use different Nvidia drivers, Dell's, the TweaksRUs XTreme-G Mobileforce, and Nvidia official MobileForce (crashed regardless)
I did notice however that the GPU always ends up running really hot before I get the error. The last 5-6 times it has crashed the GPU temperature has hit above 60 Celsius according to the I8Kfan (this is with no temperature adjustment, if I recall I need to adjust the temperature by +8 because the probe was off so it could be the case that the temperature is actually 68 celsius and up). I am wondering if anyone else who is still having these NMI errors has noticed the same on their Inspiron 9400?
*sigh*. Well I am sending it into Dell for service.... here's hoping something actually gets fixed. I am pretty scared that my laptop will be in worse condition when it gets back. -
New user here, but NOT new to this BSOD, NMI parity check crash business. This is not a case where misery loves company-I'm desperate and I'm sure most of you are. Dell is no help beyond replacing my e1505 inspiron with another e1505 inspiron that does the same thing. Pretty generic machine here, first one purchased nearly a year ago - core duo, 1 gig ram, ATI catalyst, intel proset, etc. I could be wrong but it seems to me my crashes occur most commonly during anything graphicaly intensive. Streaming video, uploading photos to web, editing RAW camera files, but MAINLY on the net with heavy graphics. Usual checks, all diagnostics, replacement of ram, reseat ram, return notebook, etc. etc.
Anybody found a cure for this mess????????????????? -
I registered this account to report my findings on this problem. Hope it helps other.
I have a E1705 with GF7800. It comes with Intel ABG wireless. It worked like a charm until I replaced the wireless cards with a Gigabyte WI01GT. It does give me 30% more throughput, but since then, I have this BSOD.
It happens almost every time my E1705 resumes from sleep. No matter what OS I use--XP32, Vista32, Vista64. I did upgrade to the latest BIOS and it seems have nothing to do with the video driver.
If I revert back the Intel wireless card, there is no problem at all. But I really love the extra bandwidth. So I just try to avoid putting the computer into sleep. When I don't use it, I just turn it off. Seems to work OK. -
Dell replaced mobo for me and no luck at all!
Now they are replacing the videocard and I might get it finished today! I dont know what else they can change so if this doesnt work dell will prolly have to get me a new notebook. -
LOL, i'm having a similar error with a M1210 I rec'd today, They are sending a tech to me next week with a New Mobo, CPU, Memory and touchpad (The touchpad stoped working within the first hr of ownership) we'll see if it fixes it.
My issues did presend when i used the dell diagnostics though. -
How many of you are suffering from BSOD on a Dell Inspiron with ATI Catalyst where the problem occurs most (if not exclusively) while on the net doing video streaming or other intensive graphic tasks? I think that I have discovered a lowest common denominator on my Inspiron and the dreaded BSOD that Dell seems unable to diagnose or fix.
-
Hello,
got an inspiron 9400 with ATI catalyst. Crashes occur when I'm using the web... usually when typing quickly.
NEVER occurs when watching DVDs... and I watch DVDs on it a lot. -
Good and bad news.
Good one first: This BSoD has not appeared for two weeks, since I upgraded the Atheros driver to version 7.2, which was newly released a month ago.
Bad news: The Atheros wireless card can only work in 54M mode. No way to switch to 108M. The actual transfer speed is now the same as the Intel card.
It seems there is no way I can get both high wireless speed and no BSoD.

Hey, I just found this thread and I've been having the same problem. My specs are in my sig and pretty much all the symptoms are the same as other people's. One thing did just hit me, this problem, for me, did not start to occur but only a few months ago (and it happens rarely so I've been ignoring, but its happening a little more often now so I'm doing something about it). It was also a few months ago that I started getting into the habit of just putting my laptop in standby instead of shutting it down. After reading that little tid-bit in the above post I'm curious if it has something to do with that? I mean, think about it, when your computer is in standby all the data is stored on the RAM, is this the likely culprit? I'm going to bug dell before my warranty runs out in a few weeks and see if they will replace my mobo or SOMETHING to try and remedy this situation. But no one has found any overall fix or anything?
-
I started getting this parity erron my new E1705 (2.16, 2 gig ram 667, 100 gig 7.2 HHD, Ultra screen, 7900 Nvidia GS, Vista Ultimate, 85 wh battery) while watching DVD movies. I got the blue screen a couple of times, but not anymore. Now the screen displays vertical rows of what reminds me of bits, sort of like the Matrix... little dashes, and freezes the system. The only thing dell suggested was swapping out the memory one at a time and rebooting to check memory. Saying this would cure the problem. I haven't tried it yet. Hoping to see in this column what the actual problem is? Motherboard,
video card? Drivers? -
I've gotten one since my last post. That's good enough for me. Mine are all when booting, so it's not like I lose any data. It's always 2 seconds after I see "Windows XP"
-
Mine never crashes on boot up at all. For me it is usually when the temperature of the laptop goes above 60C. Probably closer to 70C. Mind you I never had a problem before when the GPU temperature was close to 70C, but it appears to be the case now.
As to the person who asked if running a single memory chip and swapping slots will work.... the answer is "depends" unfortunately. This Windows blue screen error is extremely vague and probably covers a huge number of possibilities. The only reason to conduct those tests on your laptop is to get the Dell Tech Support people to continue the investigation further. It is part of their standard process:
1. Run the Dell Diagnostics
2. Run a single chip and swap it around.
3. Reinstall the OS with Dell Instructional supervision
Those were the same hoops I had to jump through. -
Well I just received my laptop back from the Dell depot. Here's hoping that the changes they made actually make a difference of some sort. According to the paper in the box they replaced:
1. My motherboard
2. My RAM
3. My videocard
I am not sure if this makes me feel reassured or if it just makes me think that they do not know what the problem actually is. I will keep my fingers crossed. -
I started to receive this error on my E1705 a few weeks ago. It generally only happened during gaming sessions, during which I would see graphical artifacts and anomalies. Using the NVidia Control Panel I was able to see that my temp was around 70C during normal operation and above 90C during gaming!
Simply put, my system was overheating. I shut it down used compressed air to clean out all of the fans and vents. Now, my system is running at 51C right now and between 60 and 70 during 3d gaming (depending on the game).
Of all the troubleshooting techniques you could try, cleaning out your fans and vents with compressed air is the simplest. Give it a whirl.

I've been reading this thread and just wanted to add to the list of users who are experiencing this BSOD parity problem.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 E1505
2.0 ghz Dual Core Intel processor
2 gig memory
Radeon X1400 video card
Windows XP Pro
I purchased my laptop almost a year ago and am just now starting to have this problem. Never had it before, just popped up the other day and now I have it about once a week. I haven't changed/ updated drivers or anything.
The only updates I have had before the problem started were MS Windows Updates. ??? -
there is no answer for fixing the ATI card. i'm a user of E1705 with ATI card also. The BSOD crashes since day 2 and i ended up return it after 8 MONTHS of using it.
You can return and get ur refund. Go buy an HP or Asus. -
Hello!
Brand new to the forum, but I've had the same problem as you lot. Inspiron 9400 (about 8months old now) and I too have gotten this Blue Screen.. It's happening with less "up-time" in between for each Blue. Although, nothing as long as I'm not stressing my video card. Think I might give 3DMark a go and see if it starts screaming.
As I said, I've only gotten this error while gaming (so far anyway), and my computer is quite hot (temp wise) when I get this error. No idea how hot, but definitely hot enough. Also, in the games I've been at lately (Black & White 2 and WoW) there have been graphical bugs like texture being warped and seemingly dragged into infinity. I've no idea if that has anything to do with the problem, since that occurred several weeks before my first BSOD (which again happened first a couple of weeks ago).
Anywho, I've got Dual Core CPU (T2500 @ 2GHz x2), 2048 MB RAM ((2x 1024) 667 MHz), 100GB HDD (5,400 RPM SATA), Nvidia GeForce Go 7900GS for the sake of maybe finding a common factor, which apparently there isn't.
Sent an e-mail to the Norwegian division of Dell. I'll let you know what comes of it, though I'm betting on various tests that I've already done :/ -
Dell wonders why they lost first place in the market to HP maybe Michael Dell should come and take a look at this thread and see a blatant example as to why (43000+ views and still counting...)
-
Hi, well I'm back...hi all again ;-)
Almost four months on from the date that Dell sent me the replacement dvd writer drive, the two replacement ram modules and the backup/restore disks I'm no better off, in fact I'm worse off....I'm without any of them ! They sent the parts to my UK address, as they only support your address for some bizarre reason....unlike Apple who support you worldwide, great, one notch off of Dell's reputation.
So, as I said, the parts got sent to my folks' place cos I have no address over in Jersey now, they then sent the parts to me in Thailand....to my knowledge everything's fine, it would take abit longer but that's ok, as long as I have the parts....apparently the Post Office or Royal Mail can't track anything outside the UK, so I have no way where the hell the parts are...almost four months on and no parts have arrived, with no way of getting any information on whereabouts they are, thanks Dell ! Also, just to top it off, Shaleen ( the Dell rep ) has given me every excuse under the sun, over the space of about three months, to get out of sending me them from there. She's replied numerous times to say that I should transfer my warranty to a country closer, but what good is that when I don't have the complete original machine ? My parts could be in the middle of nowhere as far as I am concerned and if I transfer my warranty how do they know that I haven't sold them on ? A complete nightmare !
Also, I've told her dozens of times to look on this forum for posts about the same error appearing on tons of the same laptops, she says that the 'Escalation Team' has seen nothing reported about this anywhere....and yet, if you google ' NMI Memory Parity Error Inspiron ' or ' BSOD Error Inspiron ' it comes up with hundreds, upon thousands of posts across the net worldwide ! They must think we're born yesterday these people...really....what do they pay these people, and how do they sleep at night ?!
I've had no use out of this machine for about two and a half months, probably more, and now there's no way of getting it back to it's former state apart from spending an absolute fortune to get it back to the UK, of which there is no guarantee that I will get my money back because of it not being complete, or spending another £70/80 to replace the s***e Nanya ram just so I can get my money.....or, there is one more possibility, and that is spending the extra £70/80 on the ram and being faced with the same BSOD forever and using the laptop as an expensive dvd and media player !
I've had it up to here with Dell, they're a bunch of amateurs compared to other companies around, I should've have gone with Dell in the first place, after my dad owning one and having such a bad reputation for bloatware....bargain ? My ARSE !!!! ( sorry, if arse is a swear word, I apologise....I'm pretty damn peed off with them at this moment, I'm sitting here on the edge of my seat listening to the bikes that turn up near my house in the hope that it'll be the postman with my parts...but it always isn't. Dell, do you realise what kind of headache you've put me through ? ) I was ripped off from day one. And by the sound of it, alot more people....43,000+ people interested in this thread ? That's 43,000 multipied by how much machine on average ? If all the specs for this was too hard for them to handle why didn't they test them before they left the factory ? And why is it that one of their flagship machines isn't supported worldwide, or even sold worldwide ?
I have the hard drive hooked up to a recently bought desktop and I've managed to backup all my stuff, but as to the system, what the hell do I do with it ? No disks, no ram, nothing...apart from a skeleton of a hardcore machine I had 6 months ago. Any and I mean ANY help appreciated as to what to do next would be really really appreciated. Thanks,
Ade -
Well, I got an e-mail from the support and they basically told me to try different RAM combinations (taking one out, replacing slots etc) which I've done, and it passed with flying colours and all.
Anywho, I thought I'd just let you all know that after I opened up my laptop and cleaned out the fans thoroughly it seems to be working fine. And believe me, the fans were absolutely stuffed with fluff. I haven't driven the poor machine very hard yet, but it seems much more stable (as I've done the things I usually do when getting the BSOD) so far anyway.
If you haven't done it, clean out the fans of your laptop! In any case, this should be done at regular intervals anyway, but if you're having this BSOD and haven't physically cleaned your computer, give it a try and post your results -
Well I have had my laptop back for about a week and things have been running better. I am going to be a bit more religious on airblowing the intakes for the GPU and CPU fans. The temps on my GPU have been alot more reasonable and more like when I first got my laptop, which may lead me to believe the fan was clogged and not pushing enough air. Hopefully I will get a few more weeks of crash free use before I really consider my laptop fixed.
-
The only time I was getting this error was during DVD playback using Media Center... and when I wasn't getting an error, it would freeze with columns of various colors.
Interesting is that it never happens when I use Dell Media Direct to play DVD movies. -
That is because the Parity Check is a Windows-type error -.- Duh of course you won't get it on Dell Media Direct...
-
I got a XPS m1710 and Dell have changed my motherboard two times. I got the error 1 time after the second motherbord change and that okay, no big deal. But then yesterday at my moms house I loaded up wow and started playing 10 min BANG then the error was there again, I bootet and started wow again BANG Error and then I took my hand under the laptop and it was so EXTREMELY hot and if you had your hand there for longer time it would burn.
So the error from the memory is not a fail in Memory but simply they get too hot and collaps with this NMI: Parity Check/ Memory Parity Error -- System -
for those people who has the nvidia 7900 graphic card, did you try updating the drivers? i updated mine a month or two ago and haven't gotten a single BSOD since.... and my laptop has been up and running for a good week non stop already
-
Ok i had this problem for a while and from reading practically the entire thread.....i deduced some things -_-;
1) nVidia seems to be curable while ATI is harder to solve (i have x1300 ati)
2) replacement parts doesnt have any effect (I had ram, 2 motherboards, etc replaced)
3) Heat might be a factor same with BIOS...not proven
4) Wireless interference maybe a factor
5) Diagnostics have no effect since it doesnt catch it
6) seems many have trouble when playing games VIDEO CARD?
7) dell drivers suck
8) dell laptops are sucky
My problem is like evryone else..
DEll E1505/6400
X1300
1gig of ram
100+ gb hard drive
i get it mostly when playing dis mmorpg called Flyff but sometimes on powerpoint presentations
so far i reinstalled it which took forever since it was 500 mb off da web
then got new ram
then new motherboard
installed numorous drivers recommended by DEll chat
did i mention my laptop got a short circuited motherboard before all this too
HOwever the game was working perfectly when i first got it...the funny thing is that i cant remember if the parity error came when i got the laptop back from its second motherboard...if i remember i did receive a BIOS update cd as well....i remember khan was thinking about the AO1 BIOS or early BIOS programs...
The flyff game crashes with the BSOD usually within 4 min into the game so maybe the laptop is overheating even though im using lowest settings...like you know it takes time for the heat to accumulate?
I am also using a wireless router but back at Texas A&M university where u use a ethernet cable inside the dorms, i remember getting the error as well so wireless might not be a factor for at least me.
Man sucks that ATI redirects you to dell drivers but nvidia can just use the stuff off the web...
i thk imma get a replacement one to see how it is..then ask for refund...any1 know the refund policy? man it was a good idea to get good warranty on this -_-
sorry for long post..just u know..analyzing :[ -
ok update....um i actually spoke to an ok dell chat tech and says its the video card but im still skeptical,,,will update once its here (mentions hyperthreading)
-
I have had the same problem..it started occuring aproximately 6 months after I bought my E1705 from dell (2.16Ghz Core2Duo, nvidia 7900GS, 2gb kingston RAM) It only occurs about 5-10 minutes after playing a graphics intensive game (usually WoW) or doing CAD work or watching movies. I discovered something interesting while diagnosing this problem however; my laptop seems to be unusually sensitive to heat. I tried placing my laptop on top of a radiator turned to AC (keeping the GPU core temp around 35F) and I never experienced a problem while I had it there. I called dell, they told me it was the RAM (BS) and sent me a replacement, obviously, this didnt fix it. After much arguing with a dell tech, I got them to replace the videocard, motherboard (and for some reason they insist on replacing the monitor and fans as well) it should arrive in a couple of days *crosses fingers* but the point I wanted to make was that the blue screen seems to have a direct correlation to the temperature of the GPU; anything over 50F and my system would crash within a couple mins.
P.S. without the AC my temp was usually somewhere between 80 and 85F (seems kinda high to me, especially if I wasn't gaming)
Another thing I noticed is that many people seem to have purchased their laptops in the summer of 2006 (july for me) perhaps a connection there? the core2duo's were brand new at the time -
I just got mine for the first time. Tried to open a video file and blue.
