I just found out my old Dell Inspiron 3000 has a modular bay which can be used to extend the battery life to 5-7 hours.
My first question is:
a) Should i get 2 'secondary' batteries and one 'primary' battery so that i have 2 sets? Or
b) Can the seconary batteries be taken out and replaced 'on the fly' without shutting down? Or would you have to shut down the system before switching the secondary battery? If i can swap them on the fly, i might just get 2-3 secondary batteries.
My second question is:
Who are the top 3 or so companies you'd recommend for online laptop purchases? I've never shopped online, so i don't know the reliable merchants from the shady ones who might take my money and run.
I did a search and found www.laptopsforless.com, they have pretty good prices, but i don't know anyone who's purchased from them. Can they be trusted?
Thanks!!

On my Thinkpad I can swap the battery and the DVD-ROM without shutting down. You can check companies out on resellerratings.com. They have reviews from users. Also on Pricegrabber they have ratings as well. So as you compare prices you can read reviews of the merchants who sell them. Maybe you could buy one modular battery and see if you can swap it. Then decide whether to buy more modular or standard batteries. Good Luck.
