My Inspiron 6400 with 120G HDD come with already 4 partition as usual with Vista Home Primium
1. EISA Configuration 78 MB
2. D: Recovery 10GB
3. C: OS 99.7 GB
4: Media Direct 2GB
i want another partition for my data, I have tried Disk Manager of Vista and Acronis Disk Director10 to create a logical drive of C,, but it didn't worked. I think the only possible solution left to delete Recovery, and then create a partition. and i dont want a fresh installation/formatting of OS Can somebody guide me this process step by step,, becoz I fear that as Recovery is left OS,,, is there any chances of some conflicts, If I simply delete it through Vista disk manager, will OS work fine and will be I able to merge that space into C and consequently create a new drive. Thanks in advance

Norton PartitionMagic can do it.
It will allow you to change the partitions even if Windows is installed. -
Partition Magic is a good bet but you might be overthinking your problem... Dell puts the recovery partition on there so you can reset to factory defaults using a stripped down version of Norton Ghost. If you don't ever plan on using it and you have the disk to reinstall windows, just reformat that partition and assign it a letter. for example, (I have since changed this) but my notebook came with XP MCE, Upgraded to Vista so I no longer needed the option (Nor cared for it since I was smart enough to reinstall windows if I needed) to revert back to factory. So I reformated the partition that dell put there and set it as my D: drive for back up. It is that simple, now you have a 10gig d: drive that is empty. If that doesn't work and you can't get any program to repartition the drive, then you will need to reinstall everything... just make sure you boot from the media direct cd first to clean and prepare the drive (at this point you can create 2 drives, specify a size for C: and then it will dump everything else into a partition you can mount to D:; or have one drive and use the os cd to do that
), install windows on the os partition, then run media direct agian (in windows this time)
