So basically the few things I need help with are

    1) T5450 2mb cache 1.66GHz/ 667/Mhz FSB any good? or should I get the T7300?which is $200 more.....But is it needed For basic web browsing, myspace, chatting, a few games

    2)8400MGS Video card or 8600 GT..about $100 more

    3) Sound card...High definition audio or the integrated Auxilery only 20 dollars but what sounds better?

    4) Screen - both wont cost anythign extra, but have option of XGA widescreen with truelife and WXGA LCD display....I dont think anyone mentioned XGA in here. And I know the grainyness is on the WXGA+

    5) Support....anyone getting the 3 year return and technical? its about $150...just want to know your thoughts on 3 year vs 1 year
...but I am not going for the inhome service which is even more $

The budget is close to 1200 - 1300 as possible and thats nearly impossible, I tried many times and the closest is 1378 without tax.

and $1378 was with the basic T5450, with 8400MGS vid card, and 160G hard drive, and 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, with free remote....so is that a good deal???

If you're just using it for those things you mentioned, I don't think you need a more powerful processor.

If you start with the cheapest Vostro 1500:

    http://configure.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=ca&CS=cabsdt1&l=en&OC=N15002X_F_1E

Then add on the 2GB option, the 256MB 8600M GT (since it's only a $50 upgrade from the 8400M GS to the GT, it'll be well worth it, unless you're more worried about battery life) and the 3 year return to depot service, you're right around $1200 before taxes. Of course, you can play around, the 9 cell battery may be a better choice than just the 6 cell.

If you are a student at a Canadian University, definitely check your school to see if they offer a link to a Dell Premier website. I am a student at University of Toronto and can get a 1420 about 100-200 cheaper than on the regular website.
