Hey guys! I wanted to see if anyone could provide helpful tips for dealing with XPS support. First of all, the situation began last week with my m1710 when I noticed the screen would flicker. Playing around with it, I also found out that if I switched from AC to battery, the screen would shut off and a buzzing noise would emit right before shutting off. Obviously more than a software issue. I was disappointed to say the least since the LCD I received was almost perfect (an LG) and I knew about the horror stories about Dell refurb LCDs.
So I call XPS support and an LCD is sent out. I replace it on my own and it doesnt even work properly. The brightness setting would not work (Fn-Up/Down) and the screen would turn white when Windows would power it down (Power Save). On top of that, the screen had dead pixels, uneven lighting, was darker than my original screen and had very dull colors. I had a feeling that this LCD wasnt even for my generation of XPS. The box and packing slip said Samsung yet the LCD inside was an LG designed in 2005.
So I contacted XPS support again, this time through chat since I got tired of waiting on the phone. The chat guy dispatches another replacement, but this time he tells me that I am not allowed to install it on my own since Im not certified (even though the previous support person gave me the choice). So a tech should call me today to set up an appointment. Im thinking that if the LCD he/she brings is not to my liking, I will have them send it back.
What I was wondering is what guys recommend I should keep doing. Should I just keep asking Dell to send me an LCD until I find one that is equally as good as my LG or is that hopeless? Is it true that I cant install it myself? My laptop is beyond its 21-day return period, but can I still demand that they send me a brand new screen or even a replacement system? I find it hard to believe that Dell cant provide me with the same quality that I purchased. I bought the warranty in order to be able to insure my system works great and looks great for its 3 year period, not to have it replaced with poor quality parts. Thanks for any help you can provide!
