Hey everyone. I got my 1720 today. Shipment only took 9 days. Anyways, I was reinstalling vista to get rid of all the bloatware, and it has been stuck on "completing installation..." for about 25 minutes, and it's not going anywhere. Can I just turn the computer off and start over? I don't want to screw something up.
Thanks.

let it sit for 24 hrs, im not kidding
-
lmao.... what? please elaborate, cuz I'm cracking up. But I'm still pissed it's donig this.
-
Probably not a good idea on your part to mention the 9-day shipment when asking for important advice. I wouldn't be surprised if people started suggesting that you let it sit for 24 days.
-
I would hope people would actually take my problem seriously and help me out. There are a lot of good people here, so someone's bound to help me.

wait a few more minutes if it doesnt work shut down and start over. worst case scenario, you just have to reformat again because the last install is half done on the HDD.
can someone confirm me on this , i don't want to be the one to ruin his pc.
im crossing my fingers for you -
thanks mordeth... we're actually over an hour now... i don't think its doing anything.
-
oh that stinks...time to put the baby to rest and start over
good luck my friend -
ok... can we get confirmation from one more person? I want to make sure I don't screw something up. One more solid voice would make me feel better.

Its getting stuck at the same spot over and over. I don't know what to do... SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!
-
just a question, did u shut it down while it was downloading updates before this happened?
im trying to think of possible causes and solutions -
no... i just shut it down, like normal then turned it on and booted from the CD.
-
It gets to after the first restart, and here is the screen its on....
Installing Windows....
That's all the information we need right now. Your computer will restart several times during installation.
/Copying Windows files
/expanding files
/installing features
/installing updates
completing installation...
/ = a check mark
and the green bar down below is about 60% through.. thats where it stops -
should i try restarting and using a different option other than formatting?
-
nah wait, im looking on the net to see if there is a solution without shutting it down
-
this might be a bios problem. it might need to be updated.
can someone confirm this? -
well, if thats the case, will i be able to install updates still?
-
is there a button for closing the install? i read on another forum that attempting to close the screen gets the bar moving.
try that and see if it starts working again. the most that would do is bring up a page asking you to stop or not -
I've tried it says... "Setup cannot be cancelled. Doing so could leave your computer in a potentially unstable state."
and it doesn't make it start moving. -
ok i was hoping it wouldn't come down to this but...
it is time to call in an exorcist.
its out of our hands now (i'm out of ideas)
-
thanks for the help... I'm hoping someone else can come in with an idea.
-
I can't do anything... I need help badly. Someone please come to my rescue.
-
maybe i do.. get a hammer and bang haha jk...
did you turn off the laptop? .. i think you might wait till battery is gone and turn it back on later on and it´ll "auto-check itself (thats what my desktop does)... really not sure -
I think it is the SATA driver issue. I saw this posted several times. Just do a search.
-
There is still activity when it gets stuck... the 3 ... after "completing installation" are still blinking, and I can move the mouse. I'm not sure wha to do from here.
-
Shut it down. Go to BIOS and switch the SATA to ATA. Or go through the installation following this thread.

Thanks bill... I searched it and found a guy who told me what to change and I did it, and poof it worked... Then I come back and you say to do the same thing. I appreciate the help man. I was getting scared there for a minute. Thanks to you to mordeth.
